Specialized Tri Shoe & Speedplay Cleat
Just got the new Specialized Tri Shoe for my birthday yesterday from my girlfriend. I have been riding a pair of Carnacs for a few years now. How do I put my Speedplay cleats on the Specialized shoe? I know for the Carnacs I needed an adapter plate, do I need one for these too? The shoe has 3 holes in the bottom, my cleats have 4. And the Carnac adapter doesn't look like it will work because it has 3 holes like the Specialized shoe plus 2 others. Please help me, my Carnacs smell terrible.

I'm running the same set up....moved the cleats from my Sidi to my Specialized Tri Shoe. You have to use the adaptor plate that has the 3 screw config. I believe that adaptore comes with the pedals and cleats, if you don't have it anymore you may have to buy a new set of cleats :(

Good luck

Damn, I just bought new cleats this summer. My Carnacs have to use an adapter plate, but is has the 3 holes in a triangle like the Specialized shoe, but then it also has one screw at the top and one at the bottom, so I doubt I can use that adapter with the Specialized, I don't just want to leave those 2 holes empty.

So you think the adapter comes from Speedplay or Specialized? I think the one I have now came with my Carnacs.

Adaptor comes with the speedplay cleats and works on the Trivents.

Can I get it without buying new cleats? I bought new cleats this summer but they didn't come with an adaptor, I didn't need one because I was still riding my Carnacs. I don't think that adaptor will work though because of the 2 extra holes.

Don't know. I'd check with some LBSs and see if they have any extras laying around or are willing to sell the adaptors from a set.

Good choice on both shoes and pedals.

Go to the Speedplay website at http://www.speedplay.com/ for very up to date info on shoe/pedal compatibility. I think you will find the answer there. Also, if you are lost, you can phone them directly at 800-468-6694 for tech info. They are outstandng for tech support.

Your primary resource on the website for shoe compatibility is here:

You'll enjoy that combination! Excellent choice!

Thanks for the input Tom. I have the cleats and I picked up what I was told was the adaptor plate at my LBS, it's a thin piece of black plastic with a 3 bolt pattern to attach to the shoe with short fat allen screws and then a 4 bolt patter I assumed to attached the cleats to the plate. However the plate is pretty thin and the 4 hole pattern holes aren't even threaded. Plus my cleat screws pass right through that and are hitting the sole of the shoe before they are even close to tight. I feel like an idiot but I just don't know what I am doing wrong. I there another piece? The shoes came with 2 little black metal pieces but I don't see how they fit or what they do. I will go back to the LBS tomorrow with all of this stuff in hand, just looking for any pointers beforehand. Thanks
