has anyone lost a hitch rack or done any damage??

We an Element Honda put the 1 1/4 inch hitch they told us they could not put a 2 inch adapter deal on the car. we bought a Yakima hitch rack it goes into a 2 inch hitch deal REI told us to buy an adapter we did. It bangs around a bit much. We asked yakima what to do. they said return it. We like it.
