The sprint for 2nd & 3rd place had Axel Merckx pulling Cedric Vasseur almost all the way to the line, with Vasseur sprinting around in the last few meters. It basically looked like Axel was Cedric's leadout man.

As Vasseur was pulling beside Merckx, Merckx looked over to Vasseur and shouted and gestured a bit (probably not too happy that Vasseur didn't pull at the front at all).

So my questions are:

1) Is this "bad form", or "that's bicycle racing"? Seems like Merckx could have employed a strategy to counter this move by Vassuer (what exactly I'm not sure).

2) Anyone know exactly what Axel shouted?
