Its not that hilly but your speed is hardly ever constant as the grade and direction is always changing, plus 90% is surrounded by trees and isn't effected much by wind.

Saying that I think a disc / wheel cover will come out almost the same when compared to a good deep areo wheel in the end.

I'm taking my cover off.

Do many people bring both a road & tri bike? Or isn't it really worth it?

I've never had room to bring extra bikes or wheels and have found that I have been fine on just my tri bike and disc wheel.

You still spend a very high percentage of the time in the aerobars.

The longest climb is 1 mile, which is only 6 minutes if you ride it at 10mph. The bike course is ~3 hours.

I say tri-bike, 100%.

NO ONE averaged over 20 mph for the 1/2 (either DATTT or smokies half alone) for the 56 mile bike course. The average time was around 16.9 mph! A good time was 18-19 mph or MUCH slower than you are likely thinking. This includes the likes of Bruce Gennari, Kevin Gingras, etc. To call this bike course difficult is an understatement.

for a brief moment, i thought you were talking about harriman there. then i woke up relieved i was all done with that kind of thing. wait, what's that you said about this coming weekend? i'm doing what? surely there must be some mistake?

sadly, no

And kudos to you for some pretty epic back-to-back brutality! I would most definitely take advantage of the free massages after each race ;)
