girls - one piece or two piece?
so i need something new to race in since my bf conveninetly stole my tri shorts and has completely worn them out (sigh, and yes, they were women's shorts...) i am debating between a one piece or a two piece situation. i think i might be able to breathe a bit better in a one piece since i ride in bib shorts, but two piece is cooler and i usually run in a sports bra/shorts. what do you race in? thoughts?

Ok, I'm a guy, buuut, since for some strange reason I end up training with a lot of women and also coach women and often sell tri apparel to women and because being that I'm in Hawaii it's just me and the euros still online, well I figure I'll post:)

Most of the women that I know seem to have migrated to a one piece suit. This isn't to say that the two piece is dead in any way at all, that's just what I'm seeing. One neat thing about a two piece is that often it eliminates the waist band or lower binding of the top so you actually have a bit less constriction around the waist and lower chest area for easier breathing. Problem with one pieces is that they either fit or they don't where a two piece often gives you a few more options, for instance you can use a med bottom, large top if needed versus being stuck with one or the other for the whole thing with a one piece. Another consideration is that if you planning on not wearing a sports bra underneath you need to nix suits with a front Zip. A one piece is also nice (and this applies to guys too) in that you can dump ice down the top and it doesn't just fall out the bottom.

As a guy I HATE to run in tops, shorts and no shirt for me but when I race the one piece (currently a 2XU super elite, soooo nice) strangely just feels right even with all the coverage. My best friend, same as you in that she runs in shorts and a sports bra/shimmel and although she's played around with two pieces she keeps ending up in a one-piece suit, currenly a Speedo FSII which she's absolutely enamoured with.

Anyways, good luck and maybe you'll get someone other than a guy to respond next;) Oh and on your boyfriend, just out him to his friends and I'm sure he'll never touch your stuff again.

I prefer my girls in one piece. but I have broken a couple of them in two. Not as much fun, but not totally awful either.

I like the two piece, found one piece felt constricting...
but I think the issue here is: your BF took YOUR women's tri shorts???? and not just once by mistake, he wore them enough to wear them out!?!?! I think THAT is your problem! :)

I prefer a one piece for shorter races, if you can find one that fits comfortably. I prefer 2 piece for convenience, on longer distance races, when I make stops at the port-a-john. I know real triathletes pee while they swim/bike/run, but I prefer to stop.

Good luck keeping the new gear for yourself.

My wife wears two pieces exclusively. Come to think of it, so do I. BTW - she gave me a pair of her (women's) bike shorts. Turns out they fit me a lot better than they did her!

We're just going to clarify here:

Newbz took his girlfriend flyer's tri shorts.

Sorry David, had to do it.

"You stole your girlfriend's shorts and she outed you on Slowtwitch"

That went completely over my head. Now I get it.

Good thing I outed myself before my wife did. :-)

I haven't tried racing in a two-piece, but I did a sprint two weekends ago in a one-piece and it worked really well. It is a magic swimsuit :) magic like cinderella's slippers!

maybe she's born with it, maybe it's chlorine
If you're injured and need some sympathy, PM me and I'm very happy to write back.

thanks very much for all the advice. i am kind of lanky and had trouble finding one piece uni's for crew that fit, so i think i'll go with the two piece, especially since i am going to do some longer races next year.

i'll hide the shorts from newbz, HELL maybe even the sports bra top too ;)
(hahaha *runs and hides* as he tries to kill me)
