compact crank compatiablility

My wife wants to go compact; looking at swapping her regular Ultegra (9 speed) crank (with Ultegra bb) for a Shimano FC-R700 compact. Am i looking at troubles (with bb or front derail) to do this, or just a simple crank swap ? thanks for help.

what means this word 'change'? .....

It is a pretty straight forward swap. You'll need a Shimano BB with the external bearings, you'll probably need to remove a couple of links from the existing chain and drop the height of the front derailleur a bit. Make sure that the front derailleur can be lowered. The Shimano compact cranksets were designed so that you don't need a compact specific front derailleur.

Are there any issues if I have a 9 spd ultegra...everything I have read, indicates the Shimano was designed, or intended for 10 spd...thanks.

The R700 works fine with a 9 speed setup. I use it on my road bike with DA9. The R700 shifts nearly as well as the original 53/39 DA9 cranks/rings.
