Hi,

Check this out

the entire 800 free relay underwater, check out the high elbow catch and the nearly catch-up style of arm timing.

I was only watching the high catch, there is certainly room for improvement in my stroke when I get tired.

My arms tend to get pretty straight when I get tired, really good clip, thanks for that.

Very cool, I wish I could see some of it in slow motion and close up.

I also noticed that they seem to swim at least fairly flat. There is certainly quite a bit of roll in the hips but not as much as I might have expected. They also seem to roll more on their breathing side.

That is also a pretty serious lead they build up :)

There's been some talk about backstroke in the last couple of days on collegeswimming.com (I know it's the equivalent of letsrun in terms of proving Sturgeon's Law, but their 10% of good content can be quite good)

http://collegeswimming.tv/viewtopic.php?t=2439

So based on USA Swimming's study results, it raises some good questions about body roll on the long axis strokes, and whether we're teaching people to swim with too much roll when the most effective swimmers in the world for those strokes are swimming decidedly flatter than what's currently being taught.

You can talk about long hull v. short hull all you want, but if long hull body position creates difficulty in creating effective prropulsion, then you're just kind of putting around no-wake in the harbor.
