lifespan of cranks
Seeing as I know dick about bikes I thought I would throw this out to the many bike experts on the board. I'm riding a 5 yr old mid-entry level road bike and was wondering if there is any advantage in replacing the cranks (Shimano 105's) for the upcoming season. I have 2 halfs and 2 or 3 shorter races on the schedule. Would I notice a difference in power or efficiency or whatever with a new higher-end crank. If so, what crank set do people recommend? I'd appreciate any helpfull feedback.

Definitely not FSA Mega-expo...they had a lifespan of about 7 months with me...
In fact, I would stay away from FSA all together. I know people will disagree, but my experience has been that they just don't make a very good product.

Nope. Save your money for race fees.

Metallic cranks? Em, forever. Carbon cranks may have limited life (due to material defects, too strong a rider overloading them, ...). But a set of metallic cranks will last you a lifetime.

Don't waste your money. Cleaning your drivetrain will make 10 times the difference.

If you have money burning a hole in your pocket...buy some race wheels, an aero helmet, replace your chain, buy something that will help you train more/harder, get a coach...
