Conti Gatorskins riding squirrely
I just got some Gatorskins, and they are squirrely! I noticed it first when decending in the rain. Anyone else have this problem? Anything I can do when riding to change how they handle? Or am I just stuck with slippery, squirrely tires? I don't feel like they contact the road as well as the cheap, $15 tires I used to ride. When its dry outside, they're great, but when its wet, they are a bit scary. I'm guessing its because they are a harder rubber?

Try a bit less pressure if it's wet out (don't go too low though or you'll be much more likely to flat).

Make sure they are not on backwards. On the sidewall, there is a rotation arrow (it's kind of hard to see at first).

I have had these for the last two years and put some proud miles on the same set with only 2 flats....one last weekend. So I am about to get new rubber. 100% chance I'm getting the same thing.....love these tires

Don't know what you had before, but I do not consider the gatorskins to be "hard" rubber.
I in fact sometimes wish they would last a little bit longer.

Maybe you got yours from an old batch?

How do you know they are slipping? By the time you feel them slide, you are pretty much on your way to the ground.

I've got them pointed the right way. I'll try that earlier suggestion about a lower psi when its wet.

They just feel slippery and a bit squirrely when its wet. I haven't actually crashed on them; they just feel like they don't grip as well when its wet.

Gator skins are hard wearing tires that are very puncture resistant. If you want a grippy tire get the GP 4000 (in the continental range). I know people who gets years out of the gator skins with far fewer punctures than other brands/models (on average).

I've got a brand new pair and have no problems, 115psig and I'm fairly light. I haven't rode them in the rain though.

Maybe the profile is different from your last pair of tires and may take a few rides to get used to?

Check your headset? It may be a little loose.

Do you have the 2005 or 2006 Gatorskins? I have both the 2005 and the 2006 tires and I like the '05s so much better because they are a lot easier to get on and off the rim.
