I have standard issue QR brake pads and plan to switch to carbon-rimmed race wheels for a HIM. Is this a plausible combination?

if you have ever used your brake pads on aluminum rims, replace them when you switch to carbon (bits of aluminum get embedded in the pad and they'll cut into the carbon rim). You can use regular (new) pads on carbon, but it is not recommended, they won't brake as well as cork and they'll glaze the carbon when they get hot.

I would swap out the pads for BBB, Kool Stop or Swiss Stop carbon specific pads. They're inexpensive & easy to swap.
BTW - I just got a set of Ritchey "Carbon" pads, but waiting for the snow & ice to melt before trying them.

I may be committing a mortal sin, but I have always used my standard brake pads with my race wheels. I've had both Heds and Zipps in the last 5 years, and both seem none the wose for the wear.
