You could always go to the Hunt Club. It's where Tank Johnson's best friend was shot!

I'm originally from Chicago and was back home over xmas. Too much has changed for me to give accurate recomendations.

Try this if no one gives you suggestions:

I enjoy Roy's...small chain. You've got all the steak houses as well.

http://www.roysrestaurant.com/

As far as clubs, try

www.metromix.com

I can speak on bars on the northside but the club scene isn't my scene.

For great "trendy" restaurants, check out the west Randolph St. area, Blackbird is a personal favorite. You could forget trendy and go Chicago Chop House and not have to eat the next day!

Place to see and be seen for dinner: Gibsons on Rush St. Lot of bars in that area for after dinner. Total tourist area.

Tank Johnson's buddy was shot at the Ice Bar, not the Hunt Club. Not sure if that was a joke or not.

I second blackbird. You might also want to check out Spring. It's a bit farther away from where you are staying, but it's a cool place. Can't help you with clubs.

Oops, thought is was the Hunt Club. Wasn't someone else shot there recently?

Yeah, it was a total joke.

My favorite bars are
Sheffields, Star Bar, and Danny's

If you or your clients are into Sushi, try Sushi Samba.

We fell in love with this place when we visited 2 summers ago:

They have wonderful sushi with a really great menu. The restaurant itself is beautiful. My DH has also taken several clients out here and they've all enjoyed it.

There are lots of great clubs and dinning options right in River North--just west of Michigan Ave and north of the Chicago River. Sounds like you'll be staying just south of the river--near the Hard Rock Hotel.

Anyway, I recommend Quartino as a dinner option. It's a 'tapas' style restaurant--except with Italian food http://www.quartinochicago.com/. Have only been there once--but the experience was great. Friends of mine are regulars there every weekend. Make reservations today--this goes for any trendy spot.

If you're looking for Mexican, De Cero Taqueria is really trendy. I have to warn you though... It's really loud in there. Too much so if you have quiet, mousy clientele http://www.decerotaqueria.com/. If you're hanging with the loud bousterious crowd the food here is outstanding. De Cero is in the West Loop on Randolph. Seems like someone else mentioned this area. Very trendy spots on Randolph in West Loop.

If you're looking for a trendy Mexican restaurant in River North, I recommend Zocalo http://zocalochicago.com/.

Phil Stefani's 437 Rush is my favorite place to get steak or seafood http://www.stefanirestaurants.com/437rush.htm. Kind of a classic Chicago chop house decor and feel.

The club scene starts late and goes until the early morning. Most clubs that I'm familiar with don't seem to get crowded until 11 or midnight. Most are open late--some until like 5AM. I'm getting a little too old for this, but on occassion we're out all night. There's a great show at Vision Nightclub on Saturday http://www.visionnightclub.com/...ails.php?article=404. This place is kind of confusing because you have Excalibur downstairs (the main entrance to the building) and Vision upstairs (entrance on the North side of the building). Within Vision there is Dome and Sky. Dome is typically hip hop and remixes. Not really cutting edge music typically. Sky has a bigger dance floor and usually the main act.

Sound-bar and Crobar are two other big venues (http://www.sound-bar.com/ and http://www.crobar.com/). Sound-bar is in River North and Crobar is near Goose Island--about a 10 or 15 minute cab ride. Have been to Spy Bar http://www.spybarchicago.com/, too. It's just across the street from Sound-bar.

Anyway, these are just a few suggestions. There are so many great places to visit in Chicago. I'd just recommend staying away from chain restaurants that you can find outside of the city--except maybe Potbellies for lunch. It's like Subway--Chicago style.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your stay!

Try Avec (next to Blackbird, same owners) for a casual, hip place. Most food items are small and great for sharing. Gotta have the white truffle focaccia! Good inexpensive wine list as well. Place is always packed, noisy and good lounge music.

As far as massage, I'm assuming your talking sports massage, try Athletico(http://www.athletico.com/locations/default.htm), the Gold Coast location is closest, about a $6-7 cab ride away (w/tip) from your hotel, ~1.5 miles.

For dinner, I second Roy's as mentioned above, excellent food. The Randolph Street area is good as well, I like Red Light, here is a site for checking out the restaurant and night scene if you want to do some research: http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/dining/.

I also suggest Japonais... it is the hot spot of the moment.

Actually, I don't suggest... I IMPLORE you to select Japonais.

You can get a massage at the David Barton Gym that is located in the same building.

edit: if you have never been to a David Barton Gym, you should go over and check it out while you are at Japonais (even if you get a massage elsewhere). .. it is a unique gym experience.

Massage: Frederick at Equinox Fitness - 900 N. Michigan. Call ahead. 312-254-2500. He's worked on me a bunch. You don't have to be a member at the club to use the spa. You could probably sneak in a workout if you wanted.

Restaurants: La Scarola (Italian) on Grand Ave. Rosebud Steakhouse (Steak/Seafood) on Walton. Both small enough to feel like you're not being shuttled in and out like the bigger, more trendy places. Both with great service and great, sometimes loud, atmosphere. Reservations highly recommended. Food is second to none.

Clubs: I'm a triathlete, I don't have a life outside of working, sleeping, eating, training. Good luck!

Rosebud on Rush for great Italian. Otherwise, try to get in to Charlie Trotter's.

Take your clients to Alinea in Lincoln Park. Although the 24 course marathon tour is a little over the top, they have a 12 course tasting as well. Great wine pairings - really fun and unique place if you love food. One of the top restaurants in the country. http://www.alinearestaurant.com

If you want trendy, but great mexican, go to Frontera Grill / Topolombompo (445 N. Clark http://www.fronterakitchens.com/...nts/restaurants.html). This is Rick Bayless' restauarnt. Great, different Mexiacan...great drinks...great atmosphere...pricey...make reservations...even then, you will wait for a long while...

Other suggestions...Yoshi's Cafe....Cafe Iberico located on 739 N. Lasalle (Tapas, much better than the more popular Cafe Baba Reba)....Nick's Fish Market (51 S. Clark), great, but very fancy and pricey seafood....try the Italian places on / near Taylor Street....or the old little Italy area along 24th and Oakley...312 (located at Randolph & Lasalle in the Theater Dist)...or take them out for real Chicago food...Home Run Inn Pizza (31st and Kostner), Gino's East, Pizzeria Uno, any number of eastern european places on the NW and some SW side areas....Goose Island Brewery / Restaurant at about 1600 N. Clyborn (food is OK, beer is very good), Maxwell Street Sausage Vendors (Now located at some dumpy site near an on ramp off of Roosevelt and Halsted???, or go to a variety of great local mexican places in Pilsen (22nd Street and 26th Street Area around Cicero and Pulaski Ave)...

Avoid those too tendy, too expensive places on west Randolph (Blackbird is great, but a little stiff....as is Nick's mentioned above)....

Forget about going clubbin...head to some chicago lengends like Weeds at 1555 N. Dayton http://www.chicagobarproject.com/...ws/Weed's/Weed's.htm, a true gem...or try Buddy Guy's Legends...or go to the southside and do the western crawl...start at about 101st and western and hit all the bars up to McNally's at 115th...you'll be crawlin....

Enjoy....
