collegiate cycling

I recently started back at a university for my masters. I have the chance to join the cycling club, which I think would be cool. There are, as you all know three different types of races.... TT, criterium, and road races. Since I am career changing at the age of 33, I cannot afford to buy a new bike. I ride a P2K with Bontrager XXX Lite Aeo Bars. Can I use this bike in the crit and road races? Also, I'm not embarressed to say, I have no idea what the difference is between these races. What are they?

p.s. how do you post a picture?

Cheers!

not knowing much about the P2K's geometry, i'll leave that for others

for crits and road races, you can't have aerobars on your bike.

crits are shorter (about 1 hr or less, depending on what level you race at), on short courses with at least 4 turns. road races are on longer courses (1 or more laps, but not nearly as many as a crit), and the race will last longer.

collegiate racing is awesome. however, i'd save up and buy a cyclocross bike. is it october yet?

No.

The Collegate Cycling Conferences have the samew rules as the UCI. You must have legal geometries, with NO clip on bars. Also you must have a spoked wheel.

As for races.. you will usually find
ITT
TTT
Uphill ITT

Crit - Standard 1 - 2 mile crit.
Circuit - A small scale road race.... we just can't afford to pay police to close 50 miles of road... usually not in our budgets. It's more like a 7 mile loop.

Road Race

And there are a few unique events like MercyHurst has a mini crit / pursuit thing in a nascar track.
