Worst Case Triathlon Scenario question...
Ok this is something I used to talk about with my training partners. We came to our collective conclusions but I am curious if Slowtwitch would think the same thing.

Here is the scenario:

You are in the later stages of a triathlon (say in the last part of the bike or in the run) and you have to go #2. There are no restrooms in sight. What do you do?

Find a large bush or a big rock to get behind (that's what I did in the Pikes Peak Marathon--thank God it was running thru a forest!)...felt much better..

Search for "peeing" in Slowtwitch and read the article from years back on the topic. The author describes what Greta did in the NYC Marathon (I think). A must read. Someone linked it a couple of months back.

I'm on the bush team too... #2 only gets worse when running. Kinda like it's pressed further down or something.

There was a story about a rider in the Tour a couple of years ago (think it was Bradley McGee) - had to go #2 and did so behind a bush half way through the stage. He used to gloves to wipe.

Agree - bushes and rocks are key. Trees with large leaves also come in very handy, if available. Anybody who has done years and years of distance running knows that this is only the worst-case scenario if there are no bushes around - e.g., crossing the San Mateo bridge, or running through the desert. The bridge scenario requires ingenuity - and a certain callous indifference to the plight of boats travelling below the bridge!

Or to those of us who like to swim in San Francisco Bay? ;)

7 Mile Bridge Run in the Keys one year - absolutely no where to go. Definitely saw someone who had an 'accident' earlier in the race...

Do NOT do what the girl (20 - 24AG) I saw at the Sylvania (OH) Oly a couple years ago did.

I'm in the last mile or so of the run, start smelling this incredibly foul odor. Then I come up behind this girl that is still running, runs right past a few kids holding hoses. It has run down her legs and is just unreal in how disgusting the scene was.

Based on when her wave would have started she would have been in the 2:50 range so no chance of placing and taking a minute or two to clean up would have been much appreciated. Just plain nasty.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.
