How do Campy Mirage and shimano 105 compare? Are they similar?

I believe Mirage is Campy's entry level group. It is far superior in quality, durability and service life than Sora, Shimano's entry level group. I believe that puts it at least on par with 105. Personally, I think it is even better than 105.

I thought Veloce & 105 are similar price/performance.
FWIW - If resale was not a concern, I'd probably go Campy.

2007 Mirage is at a very similar level for quality to 105. 2006 Mirage was a little behind if you like external BBs.

What about SRAM? it's more expensive than the options under consideration and is unproven. Great option for those who sit on the fence between Campag and Shimano but it doesnt offer anything special to make it the "must have" gruppo.
