Help, selling bike and want to protect myself!
I have worked out a deal with a guy to sell a bike of mine. He has requested we use an escrow service of my choice. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Have you considered setting up a Paypal account?

Buyer beware.

Keep it safe and set a paypal acct. Otherwise, travel and get the bike personally.

My brother got scammed $450 on a fake Specialized Stumpjumper because of a spoof.

I am actually selling the bike. He said he would like to use an escrow service so he had the option of verifying the bikes condition, etc...
Also, I was told that paypal only protects transactions that occur through ebay. Is this true?

The fact that he is letting you choose the escrow service is a good thing. This helps protect you. Find a good escrow service that will not release your bike until the payment clears.

Now that I know some of you guys look through the special needs bags for kicks, I'm gonna put some really weird stuff in mine. I can see it now. "What the heck was he going to do with a family pack of KFC chicken, a football helmet full of peanut butter, a 12 inch rubber dildo, and naked pictures of Bea Arthur?"

The old school way to do it was COD

I'm pretty sure you can ship it COD and require a certified check.

He pays w/ a Certified check on delivery.

There's probably better ways by now though.

I've just used escrow.com. Seems like everything is progressing nicely, but it takes a lot longer to get your money!

This is how my sale is going.

1 day to set up escrow account

2-4 days for buyers payment to clear

5 days ground shipping

2 days buyer inspection time

3 days for payment to clear from escrow to me

But, it does protect the buyer and seller - Ernie

I sold a vw bus using escrow.com, shipped it from CA to Maine and it worked great. Make sure in the escrow contract that the buyer is responsible for paying return shipping if he rejects the bike.
