Stay at the Wynn or the Bellagio if you can. Kinda of pricey, but really upscale. Unless you want to party, then stay at the Hard Rock Hotel or the Palms.

Actually, I didn't really like the Bellagio. Stayed there last time (2 years ago). Wynn wasn't there yet. For the money, I like the Venetian.

Good luck Sophie! What about your Boston aspirations still?

edit:Ah, since the Mandalay Bay is the "host" hotel, better to stay there (and it is very nice as well) since the Venetian is way down at the other end of the strip (not really that far, but a walk when you are tired none the less). Forget the Excalibur - lots of young children/families there (like mine) :) MGM grand is nice as well, but a little overpriced.

Mandalay Bay is the host hotel and the start finish line. All 3 hotels there are very nice [Mandalay Bay, THE Hotel (that is actually the name of ot) and the 4 Seasons]. Check out the bar on top of THE Hotel, it is awesome and there is a great view of the entire strip. Really, any of the hotels on that end of the strip, luxor, excaliber, ny ny, mgm would be pretty easy on race morning and nothing is very far in comparison to other cities. Good luck.

I'm doing the full marathon. I have a conference there the week before so I thought I would stick around a few days to run. I am staying at Caesar's for the week, but I may switch to something closer on Fri or Sat. The travel agent that my employer is going through is looking into it for me.

I did a package deal (air and hotel) and am staying at New York, New York. A little piano bar action on Friday night perhaps??

the Mandalay Bay (M) would be the easiest (Expo, no porta pottie line to deal with as its at the start). When i booked a few months back it was $189 a night but i think the cheapest now is 260 or so for that weekend.....

Last year there were no issues with porta pottie lines....it starts at the casino and there are plenty of toilets inside. This year they will likely have more people, but there will still likely be only short lines for the restrooms.

Also, last year it was very easy to drive and park in the parking garage of the hotel before the race...so you can stay off the strip if you want to

I stayed at the aladin two weeks ago. they are going through renovations to convert to The Planet Hollywood Hotel, but the rooms were fine. I got upgraded to a suite so that was nice. The rates are so low becasue of the renovations, the casino is only half its size and its a maze to get through the lobby. For the money its perfect and its right in the middle of the strip. Good luck

Sophie,

Stay where you want (it's not like you're going to be in your room anyway) but you must make an effort to see the Wynn. It's pretty amazing what 2.4 BILLION dollars can create. World class shopping (Ferrari/Maserati dealership in lobby) and great restaurants in an atmosphere that makes the rest of the strip seem like a strip mall. Also, if you're into Cirque de Soleil you'll want to go see LOVE at the MGM. Get your tix now as it's sold out every nite.

Good luck in Vegas.

No, I never heard any construction noise. Room was decent I had no complaints. They have a Starbucks and a PF Changs in the hotel and their buffet wasn't bad either. For a quick in and out well worth the money.
