For my first Ironman, is Steelhead too close to the Ironman LOU? I am slow and the only goal is to finish the Ironman. If it is too close does anyone have any other earlier 1/2 IM to suggest in Michigan?

I am planning on doing Lake Stevens or Vineman and then IMLou. I think Steelhead is too close being only 3 weeks before the IM.
You could do the AquaBike race at Steelhead. Swim & bike portion only.
Like all things, it depends. If its something you really want to do, go ahead but know its not the optimal plan. If you use the 3 weeks between wisely you could be ready.
If you are really questioning your fitness you might want to lean towards an earlier 1/2 so that you can use it to measure your fitness and test your nutrition plan. If you did one in June you'd have some opportunity to experiment between it and the IM.
