I am not including Foo Fighters/DeeGees covers in this thread, as Hail Satin is described by Dave as "faithful recreations" and so sound almost exactly the same as the originals

Maybe not way better than the Marc Cohen 1991 original, but Lonestar did a catchy cover version in 2003. This video is from a later live concert.

Maybe not way better than the original but a great cover from one of my favorite bands:

I'm discovering a lot tonight....I'd never followed this thread.

Prince those last few minutes was goosebump inducing. I never disliked Prince, but was never a fan based on what I heard on the radio. I didn't have any idea he could play like that.

Maybe not “better” but a cool cover nonetheless.

Orianthi is really good. She plays a million notes but still fits in really well with the song.

I was looking for somethings else, and found this

I think he cut it way short, and could've easily gone ten or 15 minutes longer and still left us saying "lThat's it?"

Wow. Hadn’t seen this before. Always amazing how he can take pretty much any song and make it his own.

I saw that yesterday was the anniversary of the opening of Woodstock’94 and it made me think of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOUhpMjxJDk. One of the more underrated 90s bands.

Don't Leave Me This Way was originally done by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes in 1975. Thelma Houston made it popular a year later, and it was played every night when you'd go to a disco back then. But the Communards did the best version in 1986. Here is a video using the original song along with The Communards 1986 version video.

Let it be known, I'm introduced to a lot of the covers in this thread by the various DJs of WPRB at Princeton

I highly recommend streaming wprb.com , whenever possible

Flaked on seeing him in Ocean City a couple of weeks back, still kicking myself.

Did pull the trigger on tickets for Brian Wilson in AC next month, though.. bucket lister before he's no longer able to tour/play.

Which brings me to:

Probably put this here before, but ....

September 13, 1984, David Bowie won Video of the year for 'China Girl' at the first MTV Video awards. The song co-written by David Bowie and Iggy Pop during their years in Berlin, first appeared on Pop's album The Idiot released in 1977

I went through all 12 years and 11 pages, and there was one mention of Sonic Youth. Thats not enough!

First off we had the Carpenters' Superstar

Then Sonic Youth added another 20 seconds of feedback and made it perfect

Second one is a bit of a stretch, cause the original Madonna is great from the Desperately Seeking Susan

But Sonic Youth Into the Groovey is great and very sonic youth, but also very different. There's a good bit of feedback, but a drum machine! And a sampler!

I don't think that "better" is a word that should be used describing music or any other art.

Here are a couple of covers that have brought me joy.

What's the ruling on Taylor Swift's re-recordings of Fearless and Red

It's not a re-mix or a re-master for the old tapes, she re-did then, start to finish and has told people NOT to listen to the originals to cut off the revenue stream to the people who bought the masters

Covers albums, or something different?
