I've honestly never heard the original but it's hard to imagine it's better than this. Wow.

Baker Street-Foo Fighters
Loved the original by Gerry Rafferty and would have never thought it could have been done better.

All the covers on the Medium Rare Record Store Day EP are pretty good - I don't like "Darling Nikki" however, personally

Replying to last. My current country(ish) such is Billy Strings. Here doing one of the most covered songs of all time and killing it with some of the cleanest, most effortless guitar work you'll ever see:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LR-T2qTLF6o
Also, Colter damn-Wall. What a voice:

While we're on John Prine, Brandi Carlisle doing an absolutely crystalline version of hello in there - stunning:

Now will someone teach me how to embed?

Agree to disagree however Henk Poort covered Disturbed's cover better!
(notice, no auto-tune or in-ears just a relaxed skilled singer)

PS, from the same show; Floor Janssen covering Shallow ... NOW the thread is over ;-)
(basically anything she sings is better than any original...)

for me its Disturbed for its raw and intense delivery (from the beginning!). Henk is similar but in a Musicals style. Both are great. Good stuff.
I think this comment from someone captures it best:
Distorted gets RAW & VISCERAL … grabs me by the brain, heart, guts & ovaries (!!) He delivers a feast to be eaten with your hands and no table manners required .. Henk is a MASTER .. absolutely superb & MAGNIFICENT He delivers a gourmet meal to savour every mouthful - with some 'civilised' decorum! Life requires both.
And agree with you on Floor Janssen, very special singer with a great voice.

I'm not sure if it's better than the original, but I do think this kid has a future:

This is kind of old news - but did not see it posted here.
A Russian tribute band to Chicago. Not really better than the original as their objective was to replicate the studio versions of the songs. The band leader (bass player) transposed and arranged the charts for all instruments and vocals by ear.
This might not be their best vocal (to be fair, the lead vocalist featured here speaks broken English with a very heavy accent) - but the horns are spot on especially the trombone solo at the 4 minute mark.
Their version of Vehicle (Ides of March) is also worth a listen. That vocalist nails the original sound.

Here is the song that broke them into the limelight. Even the surviving members of Chicago have said they are nearly note for note perfect.

Here are 4 members of Blue Oyster Cult's touring band, who all live on or around Staten Island, "covering" I'm Burning For You.
They play in bars in the area with some others under the moniker "Band Geeks" and they take bar cover band to an entire new level.

This is awesome, thanks for posting it. Horns sound spot on and the guitarist covers Terry Kath’s licks pretty well.
I love that era of Chicago, jealous that my oldest brother saw them live in those days (1972 - I was only seven at the time). I used to go through his record collection back then and it fueled my love of classic rock to this day.

Awesome 80's cover medley, better than the sum of its parts.
Martin Miller and his band of session players are awesome, and they have a ton of good covers on their channel.

The original is in Japanese so this is sort of an upgrade
They have a "Heroes" cover as well
And a song I used to do with Cats On Acid [the weird covers band]

Out of curiosity, has anyone mentioned Ring of Fire performed by Johnny Cash yet? It was originally performed by his sister-in-law Anita carter.

Was reminded of this thread recently since I have these on various playlists...
Springsteen's Dream Baby Dream is way better than the original by the Suicides (I think they're the original).
Also, the Sounds of Silence by Disturbed works for me. That slow start and strong finish. Folks seem to either really like or really hate their cover.
There's a live version of Chimes of Freedom, that's on an Amnesty International album -- by Springsteen, Tracy Chapman, Youssou N'Dour. That one works so well for me, especially on a run.
