I need fashion advice ...
This is for business attire. I have nice black dress shirts with my company logo. I prefer other colors, but our graphic artist is really pushing us to stick with the colors in our "brand". I will be wearing nice khaki pants with the shirts.

Do I go with brown shoes and belt or black shoes and belt?

I know I should probably know this, but want to make sure I get it right.

I would ask my wife (I have one, which is probably why I don't know the answer) but her fashion sense isn't much better than mine.

Feel free to make funny and snide remarks as long as I get a good answer.

Crocs, Costco jeans and a Tilley hat.

Do it.

Well, it would make sure I had plenty of time to do things other than support new customers. I took off two days last week to go fishing, if i wore that I could take off the whole year.

If you’re wearing a black shirt then go with black shoes and a black belt.

However, “nice black dress shirt” and “nice khaki pants” sounds like an oxymoron.

Where are you going in this outfit?

Either combo can work. If anyone at works says otherwise, burst out laughing. Then tell them that maybe they too should visit the LR on a regular basis.

Both would work, but a nice rich brown would look nice. https://effortlessgent.com/...which-pair-of-pants/

I guess we may have different standards for what we consider nice versus expensive. We're talking a $50 shirt and similarly priced pants - so nothing expensive.

Most of the people that I meet with work for school districts, so they aren't wearing $2000 suits. I usually meet at trade shows, conferences and on-site visits. I used to wear suits to the on-site visits, but realized that I was usually over-dressed.

Based on how other "vendors" are dressed at these events, this attire is a bit nicer than the standard polo shirt and khakis.

I have no clue... probably brown belt/shoes.

When I first joined my last company (logistics planning software) we went to an industry conference in Philly and one of our owners proudly handed us all white dress shirts with the company logo on the left chest. We're all sitting at a table in the main hall on the opening morning and one of our Australia-based consultants walks over to sit with us, looks around the table at us all in our matching logo shirts and says "Oh... so we're getting into plumbing now too?". Boss wasn't amused.

That is very helpful, thanks. I figured brown would be appropriate with the khakis, but wasn't sure if the black shirt would change that.

Why don't you go buy some gray pants and then wear the black belt/shoes with them?
I'd feel weird if I was trying to somehow build around my khaki pants...then again I already feel weird.

First, if you can get a different color shirt that's going to offer more versatility, that really should be the first thing you do. The graphic artist may be pushing you to stick with a color in your brand, but your logo should do that, not the entire shirt. That immediately frees you up to expand beyond just traditional khakis and into other shades of chinos. If your graphic artist is still insistent that you need a black shirt, you need a new graphic artist because yours is stuck deep in the past and lacks design sense.

Next for the shoes -- forget about black and forget about brown/tan. Look for something in a wine/burgundy/oxblood realm. That's going to give you more versatility by far. I'm all for a good tan shoe with grey pants and occasionally with the right shade of brown pants, but an oxblood type of tone is going to go much farther overall. It sounds like you can keep this on the casual end, which I'd recommend. Too-formal shoes and chinos makes for a strange combination. The Allen Edmonds shoe bank is a factory-seconds site that has some great deals; I've purchased a couple of times from it and haven't had any issues whatsoever with what I've received, particularly because what makes these "seconds" is a slight cosmetic blemish (if any) and the construction is still first rate.

The black shirt makes it a bit rough to do anything other than black. Other colors can be done, but the black shirt isn't ideal. What colors are in the logo on the shirt? Might be able to tie shoes and belt in with the logo depending on colors.

All that said I don't really like the black shoes with kahki thing either. If you get nice shoes they will be too much for the pants. If you get what most people get when they spend $50 on shoes you will look like a waiter.

Get a pair of black pants and go with the all black ensemble. If you don't look badass then at least you'll look slim.

^^This. If you have a chance to break free from the Dockers army do it. If you can't do that then brown is probably better, but whichever way you go just make sure it's a decent pair of shoes and you'll be fine.

I mentioned Allen Edmonds earlier. And just a few minutes ago I saw that Beckett Simonon has a deal on 2nds as well. I own a pair of 2nds from them in sneakers and a pair of 1sts, both fine quality. Here’s a link. I would have looked for suggestions for you, but don’t know your size.

Yellow. I don't wear yellow except for the logo. For obvious reasons we use the bus-yellow. We have an all yellow version of the logo below. Since it is on the black shirt it will stand out.

One of the reasons he wants us to stay with these colors is because everything (website, business cards, brochures, display banners and backdrop) uses the same colors. He wants potential customers to see those colors and associate them with us.

I would prefer to have different colors for clothes, but I see his point. I had thought about gray pants, but that isn't the best summer color. Though neither is black.

I used to wear a deep blue shirt. I've been told by more than one secretary that the color looks nice on me - probably because of my gray hair and blue eyes. But I think they were just hitting on me because they were old and desperate. :)

I have nice shoes and belt already, but wasn't sure what color to go with. It wouldn't hurt to get more shoes soon, so I'll look at the brands suggested.

As long as pants and shirt are the correct size and well tailored, people won’t look too much at the shoes.

If they aren’t looking at the shoes your shoe game needs work!

OP. If you decide to shoe shop look up eBay seller dabondo1. He sells slightly used Allen Edmonds shoes for very good prices. I have bought 5-6 pair from him and they have all been in excellent shape and at a quarter the price of full retail.

This,

I used to work in trades and now work for a financial institution (but not banking/insurance...more cap projects/premises/procurement) basically if you’re not sure go black on black.

If you have excellent fashion sense you can rock the brown...but you need to be confident!!!!

Per above always buy some variation of grey pants with no pleats in front, perma press or some other variation of “do not iron”

I also have three sets of boots, all slip on, one steel toe, the other two brown and black (rock ports, and Clark’s)

Of course we are talking about fashion perfection in the semi casual winners/wall mart price range.

Oh, and buy a kennith cole reversible belt. Black or brown? No problem! About 15$ at winners.

Cheers,
Maurice

1. Someone posted a website link that referenced white denim pants and gave advice on what to wear with them. That site can not be trusted.

2. Are your pants straight front with no cuffs or pleated with cuffs? There are no other acceptable options.

3. If pleated with cuffs, you need a cap toe or wing tip. I prefer Balmorals. See Allen Edmonds Strand or Fifth Avenue. Explore link: http://www.shoebank.com/...ySecondInventory.php

4. If straight with no pleats, a loafer is fine. Those can come in two tone black and dark brown. So do belts. This is a fine option.

5. Solid colors are black, dark brown (AE also offers Chili), or Oxblood. Belt must match shoes. No light brown or tan with black on bottom or top.
