Nice.

I think I nominated their cover of I Will Survive early on in the thread. Not a big Cake fan, but that and RHCP's Higher Ground are hard to top.

The AV Club Undercover series is decent. A few highlights, a few lowlights, and the rest in between.

Here's a highlight.

Here's something in between.

Here's a lowlight.

Damn, can't believe I didn't think of posting these.. your AV Club post just reminded me of a bunch of videos I've been listening to lately on YouTube.

Triple J is a Sydney radio station and has a weekly feature called "Like A Version". Like AV Club, they have hits and misses - a few of the hits (IMO) below. I have no idea who "Art vs Science" are but their "Enter the Sandman" cover blew me away.

I'm not even a Rolling Stones fan, but Stone Sour does an awesome job with Gimme Shelter.

Maybe not better, since it sounds almost the same as the original

... but I always loved this song, and it's great to see that it's bubbled up again after all these years [orig. Wreckless Eric, 1978]

This was on WXPN when I drove to lunch today and I thought it WAS the original until the DJ said it was them.

Not sure if this counts as a cover because it's the original, just re-tuned.. into something almost completely different.

That's funny! The first time I heard the Cage version on my way home, I had to check the time to make sure it wasn't during "Highs in the Seventies"

Bit of an obscure one but "World up my Ass" by Puscifer. Originally performed by the Circle Jerks I believe.

Maybe not better per se, but this is the second time I've been impressed by a cover she's done (her cover of "Jolene" was the other)
