I felt the same way about them, even though some of those planes were probably flying when I was a pre-teen. ;-)

I too have an affinity for the MD-80/717 type because I flew on those a lot back in college. Good memories.

I saw the MD-83 models (I believe) flying out of Palm Springs back to Dallas last year. The old engines are noticeably louder. I don't imagine people living on the flight path love that sound, but I do.
