I hate seeing people litter.

I was pulling in to Starbucks when I saw this college aged dude throw his cup on the ground in front of his car and get in his car. I walked over to his car, tapped on his window and said "hey, you dropped your cup" in a sarcastic tone. I think it surprised him he got called out because he stepped out of his car and says "oh yeah, sorry" and picked it up.

Another time, I saw an old guy throw his coffee cup out his window one morning on the way to work. We were real close to a red light so I pulled up beside him and told him he should not litter. At first he denied it until I told him it almost hit me (it looked like a full cup when it hit the ground). He then started cussing and telling me to mind my own business. He was really getting irate but he sped off.

Littering drives me crazy as well. That's something worth speaking up against, because it effects all of us who don't want to live in a trash can. Your post reminds me -- I need to call my state rep's office today; his people left flyers on the doors in our neighborhood a few days ago, did a terrible job securing them, so I picked up 12-15 in yards and the street in the distance of 10 houses as I walked to get my son from the bus.

You know what I'm talking about here. Fat Ass in slippers and pajamas is buying frozen pizzas and a case of Coke. Judgement is written all over your face, but do you actually speak up and give this lazy good for nothing a public shaming.

I never have, but have been sooo close many times.

Who died and made you God?

30 years ago I was pinching below 5% body fat and was one of the fastest cyclists in my area but now I'm morbidly obese. I don't wear pajamas but I might go to the store in sweats and sandals and I might even buy frozen pizzas and Coke.

After decades of being over worked, under appreciated, going through a painful divorce, financial problems, career insecurity, health challenges and depression I was in a downward spiral and every time I felt like I was turning things around I had another setback. I'm doing better now but my situation is still precarious so no telling what the future holds.

Speaking for myself and the "lazy good for nothings" you look down on. Go to Hell.

I'm sorry I struck a nerve. I understand the selfish nature of triathletes. But I'd argue that there is also an equally if not greater self centeredness to someone abusing themselves with food.
Poor health habits affect not only the individual with a penchant for hostess pies, but they become a burden on the health care system, miss more days of work, and I'd even argue contribute to CO2 emissions at a greater rate.
I never said I have chewed a strangers ass st the market. In fact I'll give you two recent examples of doing just the opposite.
1) An old friend whose life arc peaked in his mid twenties has abused himself with bad habits for twenty years now. Over the past few months, as a direct result of my encouragement and my sacrifices on his behalf, is now into a routine of regular gym workouts, and better diet habits
2) A bum was recently rummaging through my dumpster at work. Now I wasn't going to invest a bunch of time into this stranger, but I made it clear to him that he had options way better than what he was doing.

My attitude in the OP may seem harsh, and it often is my initial thought, but hell, everybody has an initial impression. I don't tell a young hard body she looks great in her yoga pants either, but sometimes the impulse is there

I manage a grocery store, we have on avg 16-18,000 customers walk through the doors every week, I see it all. In my experience the fat slobs in pjs buying coke and pizza are no problem at all. They come in buy whatever shit they want don't talk, don't ask questions and don't bother me...just in and out.

The real assholes by far are the older northern retired crowd. That complain about every little fucking thing.

Are you going to open another register? No... I had 3 cashiers call out today that's why I'm out here waiting on your old wrinkled ass. You had no problem talkin to your 3 neighbors for 45 min on aisle 6...now you are in a fucking hurry when you get up front.

Why did you discontinue this item it was the best seller? No it fucking wasn't or we would still stock it.

Someone left a dog in the car can you call the police? ma'am...the car is running with the AC on the dog is fine! Why are you wasting my time with this bullshit!?

Why don't you have the stockers come in overnight they are just in the way and I can't get through the aisle? Ma'am The shelves would be empty if we just left it on auto pilot all day! Are you really this oblivious to how this shit works.

There is a man yelling at this lady in the express lane for wearing pjs and calling her a fat slob. You need to do something.

What the hell is wrong with you? You have to stick with the fruit-based fillings on the pop tart front. If I saw you buying chocolate pop tarts at the grocery store you can be damn sure you'd hear about it from me.

I really hate littering. About 20 years ago, I stuffed a guy into a garbage can for littering. I was in a bad mood that day. I've mellowed out since then.

I also don't like cars idling. People sit outside a store with their car idling in the no parking/fire zone waiting for their spouse/friend/partner in crime to come out. Or they fly up to the front row parking spot at a convenience store, leave the engine running, get their stuff, and come out. What a total waste of gas. It's just really inefficient and pointless pollution.

I always want to say something, but keep my mouth shut. I figure somebody that does that probably isn't the most logical thinker, so trying to approach them with a reasonable argument is likely to backfire.

That's what you get for attempting humor in the LR. Don't you know that our resident snowflakes are on high alert for trigger words? Yea. This place is being taken over by the lunatics. So take you humor someplace else or suffer the consequences from lunatic nation (which I think is HQ'd somewhere in Canada).

Drives me crazy too. This morning, i am driving to office and in one of our city's great parks. Behind a little car with Bernie and Love Trumps Hate and Mother Earth stickers all over the back. So to my surprise, at a stop sign, out the window comes a cigarette butt. Smokers, the world is their ashtray.

Back in the day at one of the bike shops I managed an obese middle age lady came in to look at bikes. Other customers were appalled she had the nerve to come there. When she left on a test ride customers made rude jokes about her. Her test ride didn't last long; she hadn't ridden a bike since she was a girl and fell tearing her shorts and scraping her elbow so she pushed the bike back. Some customers were fighting not to laugh. Now I'm the obese middle age guy who people snicker at for my audacity to want to ride, run or swim (actually, swimmers have been really nice even though swimming has always been by far my worst sport). A few years ago I joined the local 'Y' I came in for a workout before my orientation. In high school I threw shot and discus so I know my way around weights so I tried out the free weights and power rack in their weight room then did some cardio. At my orientation I found out that I didn't belong in the weight room because it was only for "serious and competitive athletes." They had a room with ancient poorly maintained weight machines for people like me. When I mistakenly wandered into the hallowed ground of the weight room people were probably thinking I had a lot of nerve being there with real athletes. I think I probably paid the same memberships fees they did.
As far as worrying about how much people like me are burdening the health care system, being an imposition on coworkers, and my CO2 footprint; donthcha' think you are getting just a little self-righteous? I didn't own a car until I was 24 and afterword still used my bike for errands and I have been a vegetarian for 37 years. I'm guessing my CO2 footprint is smaller than most and quite possibly yours. I've only used a few sick days in the last 20 years because when I'm sick I'm expected to just work from home unless I'm too sick to sit in front of a laptop; lucky me. As far as your encouraging your friend and helping a homeless guy I'm really glad you did but don't hurt your arm patting yourself on the back.

Not for that. But those fuckers with 11 items in the 10 items or less line need to be put in their place!!!

The closest grocery store has a couple "around 15 items" lines. I jokingly told a person in front of me with a single item that I didn't think that that wasn't around 15. He knew I was joking and laughed. But after he left, the cashier told me that they'd prefer people with just a couple items, other than alcohol or when writing a check, to use the self checkout lines.

I've gotten to the point where I see a douche hanging his or her arm out the window with a lit cigarette I'll change lanes because I know they're gonna toss it and it's gonna make me want to beat the shit out of them (yes, judging that they are a douche because i know what they are planning on doing...., and they can't get the inside of their car smoky, but fuck everyone else.. ... Dammit, now you've got me all worked up!)

This brings me back to an interaction a couple years ago.
The day after Halloween at Home Depot and kid and dad in line behind me. Kid is 10ish. Kid grabs oversized Butterfinger bar. Dad says okay. Seeing as how Hillary told me it takes a village and Michelle helped me understand nutritional choices, I invoked my patriotic duty and asked the kid if he had candy from the night before. At this, the dad realized what a dumbshit he was and told the kid to put it back.

A risky move I know, but how else do we keep each other accountable

Something similar to me happened many years ago when my son was in elementary school. I would park in the parking lot and walk him to his class. There was a drop-off zone for parents that I walked by on the way to taking him to class. As I was walking, I saw a woman in a SUV in the drop-off zone talking to her daughter. I had seen her doing the same thing before, always blocking traffic. I walked him all the way to class and then walked back out. She was still there, talking to her daughter and blocking traffic. I told her that she needed to quit blocking traffic and use the area as it was intended. And that if she wanted to have a conversation she should do it while driving or park in the parking lot.

She drove off in a huff, but other parents gave me the thumbs up because they were fed up with her.

I'm the kind of person who typically goes out of my way to be considerate to people, so it pisses me off to see people who are horribly inconsiderate.

For the record, Tess Holiday is not healthy.

I can't figure out which side of nutcases is more irritating- those who feel justified in shaming overweight people, or those who promote fat pride.

I have a lot less of an issue with someone who is proud of who they are than I do with someone who feels the need to shame someone else for the way they look.

I hope you can see the significant difference.
