Simon and Garfunkel are good but this is amazing:

Sorry. No. It is not better. Much worse. You had me excited until I listened to it.

I agree. People have been posting this to my Facebook feed all hyped up like it's the best thing ever and it sucks ass. And I actually like Disturbed.

Milky Edwards and the Chamberlings' version of Bowie's "Starman".

The weird thing about this one is that it's apparently a hoax - "Milky Edwards and the Chamberlings" aren't a real band, nobody seems to know who's behind it and only this and their covers of "Moonage Daydream" and "Soul Love" exist.

Always loved the House of the Rising Sun by the Animals but I much prefer the Frigid Pink version.

There are so many great choices on here. Many of which I have enjoyed for some time. Something that went through legal wrangling and eventually was released back onto Youtube:

Prince doing a cover of Creep by Radiohead-

In some ways he really owned the song. Others will argue that he went to far...

Wow.. I hadn't heard that before until I saw your post. Thanks for posting it.
In much the same way as Johnny Cash made "Hurt" his, Bradley's cover puts the original to shame.

There are a couple of different live versions of it on Youtube - the Cardinal Sessions one is incredible.

I dunno if it's the best, but it certainly goes to show how much work and how many people you need to recreate some of those Brian Wilson arrangements [and yeah, everyone knows he used the couple dozen musicians in The Wrecking Crew to do it back then]

I had NO IDEA [until I saw a doc about the making of Pet Sounds on Showtime on Saturday] that the original was done by the Kingston Trio

just responding to the last person.

The Pentatonix can really crush a song so I'd put a few from them up if I could get to the Youtube's at work. My wife is a legit musician so we get into technical singing stuff even though my musical tastes do not necessarily align with the genre (Pentatonix and otherwise).

Speaking of ...a friend of ours sang Cohen's Hallelujah at another friend's child's funeral last week (piano + voice). Yeah, the situation was already quite ripe for it so even if he'd played a freakin' kazoo people would have been bawling. But he didn't - he performed his own arrangement that, if recorded, I have no doubt would be resulting in at the very least viral stardom. It was stunningly beautiful. I've no idea how he kept it together but he did go to one of the big music schools so he's quite professional.

"Nothing Compares 2 U" by The Family (written by Prince) covered by Sinead O'Connor ...

I scrolled through a few pages to see if anyone else marked it down. I agree.

A couple of others:

"I will always love you" written by dolly parton, covered by Whitney Houston. Look, I hate the song but it is hard to argue with 14 weeks on top of the Billboard 100

Some more fun ones:

"waterloo sunet" the kinks, covered by elliot smith. This is sweet music, hard not like even if you don't like the genre.
"we can work it out" the beetles, covered by Stevie wonder. Worth a listen.

And for the nerds out there: "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" written by Purcell adapted by Benjamin Britten.

Just went through a few of their Beach Boys covers on YouTube.. usually I like cover versions where the artist puts some kind of twist or entirely new feel into their treatment of the original, but these guys are notable for how well they nail the feel and nuances of the original songs.. and apparently in single takes, with none of the mixing or studio work that went into them.

Pentatonix made their bones as a strict a capella group, but on the Bee Gees tribute show last night, they had all sorts of orchestration going on behind; I guess they threw a capella out and they're a pop group now?

I could be wrong

A cover of Gary Numan's "Are Friends Electric". Not "better" in the sense I'd choose one over the other, but very creatively inspired.
