IHeart radio, ok I'll check it out

Speaking of covers, I was spinning through my iPod and relistened to some old David Lindley. He did some great covers:

Twist and shout
Bye bye love
Do ya wanna dance
Werewolves of London
Mercury Blues
Papa was a rolling stone (my fav)

Sorry, I'm a loser and can't post links.

Joan Jett's I Love Rock & Rol was her second shot at it; she'd originally done a version with Steve Jones & Paul Cook

and even THAT was a cover

Funny you mentioned that. I heard it last night on the way to work, and thought, this might be the best Christmas song in rotation. Boozy, a little sloppy, could've fit right into the milkshake dance scene in Pulp Fiction.

Sorry, your cover lacks everything that makes the song great. Namely, Chuck Berry.

Well, I listened to it despite not being a big fan of your cover of Aina minun pita (as I've said before, primarily because as a Finnish speaker, it loses key nuance in English).

On my macbook speakers I thought, not bad, but not as good as Chuck Berry. But I was intrigued and plugged into my stereo. Much better. In fact, I really liked it, but surely not as good as Chuck Berry. So I listened to Chuck Berry. Well, I'm reluctant to do this, but I have to give you the nod, as I'd rather hear your version. BUT Chuck Berry is handicapped by the lousy recording of his version in 1958. I've seen Chuck live and would expect any live recording of his to beat the original release.

But of course, this does not end the inquiry. Spotify had 50+ (maybe 100+) covers of Run Run Rudolph. So I had to sample some. A big difference is lack of keyboards in your version (though a few times I hear a ringing like keyboards -- guitar effect?). Normally, I'd say keyboards are worth many points for me, but for some reason I like yours without.

And wait for it just a moment longer as I point out that the highest charting version of RRR was by Whitney Wolanin (never heard of her before reading the wiki), peaking at no. 2 in 2013.

So based on my sampling of a few artists I thought I'd like, here is my rating of covers:

Kelly Clarkson < Luke Bryan < W. Wolanin < Lynyrd Skynyrd < Dave Edmunds = Los Lonely Boys = The Seatbelts

Hearing the first few bars of the Kelly Clarkson version, I thought, here is a winner, but then she quickly lost me (way overdone).

Thanks for that. Revised my preferences:

Kelly Clarkson < Luke Bryan < W. Wolanin < Lemmy, Gibbons Grohl (disappointed in theirs) < Lynyrd Skynyrd < Dave Edmunds = Los Lonely Boys = The Seatbelts = Brian Setzer Band

Also listened to studio version of Setzer on spottily (much better than the live link) and Lemmy, et al., also sounded better on spotify.

An obscure Canadian prairie band called Wide Mouth Mason covers Superstition on occasion when they play live... it sounds amazing and is worth a listen for sure.

Best version of "Sloop John B" ever!

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain.

Just got around to perusing this thread. Yeah, I'm a little late to the show.

The Doors' cover of Gloria at the LA Bowl (rehearsal) is phenomenal. I think that was back on page 1...

I'll add a couple more I didn't seen on the list: Stone Temple Pilots' cover of Money (Pink Floyd) & Metallica's cover of Am I Evil (Diamond Head).

Go listen. Enjoy.

First time it came on Pandora, I skipped it.

Next time, I did not and yes, it is extremely well done.

Not sure they're "better than the original", but I'm liking both of these right now:
