If it is safe enough to use to clean my clothes, what isn't it safe to ingest?

I always give teens and adolescents some leeway when it comes to making stupid decisions - but there is no excuse for not seeing how risky and stupid this is.

HA! My 13 y/o made a reference at the diner table last night to Tide Pods, when i called him on it he tried to play ignorant and not know what a Tide Pod was. He spends most of his time surfing for stupid videos, I'm certain he's come across some challenge videos.

If he wants to ingest laundry detergent he'll have to throw back a few shots.

I don't understand the trend for these detergent pods. Actually I do understand that they are a marketing gimmick to get people that are too lazy to measure out liquid detergent to pay more.

Is this dumber than people intentionally having themselves kicked in the nuts?

Is it dumber than funneling beer into your colon? Back in my funneling days, putting things into one's rectum was generally frowned upon.

Wow ... just, WOW.

The more I see what the younger generations do the more I believe they are using the Idiocracy movie as a template for their lives.

Well they no longer bully others, so there is that.

Or the media is getting spoofed by a big hoax.. now of course there are some dim wits who will then see it and try it.

If I ever catch my son sucking on laundry pods, I'll sit him down and make him finish the whole pack in one go. That'll teach him.

On a similar note to the thread title, a group of teens thought it would be a good idea to go tubing at Sunday River ski resort in Maine at 2 a.m. the other night. Not surprisingly, they slammed into a tree in the pitch darkness and one of them was killed while the other two badly injured.

Although they managed to ring the fatality bell, the mishap itself doesn't really sound as though they've gotten any dumber in the last 32 years since a kid I knew in HS got paralyzed when he and some buddies hit a power pole tubing down a ski slope...

I thought it was funny to keep thumb tacks stuck in the sole of my shoe and then put them in the chair of an unsuspecting student when he got up from his desk. Probably should have gotten my ass beat for that one.

Is this Tide Pod issue really "a thing"? The article supports the contention "teenagers are eating Tide Pods" by citing statistics for toddlers.

That’s a good invention. We used to take the old bic pens with the clear tubes. Take the ink part out and use a think rubber band held on with a thin rubber band wrapped around for a dart gun. Then put needles through the cut off ends of shoe laces for darts.

How times have changed. These days such participants are welcomed with open arms and can even marry.

We don't get all that many murders here in Maine, but we do get a pretty steady stream of people killing themselves doing something stupid, usually it involves ATVs or snowmobiles. Sledding is a bit unusual.

The one that sticks with me, is someone wanted to get what I assume was a fairly large eye-bolt out of tree. So he hooked some sort of line up to it and attached it do his ATV. And proceeded to pull it out with brute force. When it suddenly snapped free, it came flying at him, striking him in the back of the head and killing him.

Q tips cut in half in BB guns. Redneck Nerf. Damn those things hurt.

Young people today are badly in need of help. People in general are, but young people most of all.

I'd heard of this Tide pod challenge several days ago. To me, it's of a piece with that 'choke yourself out' fad young people were engaging in a few years ago.

Let me clarify. I don't doubt it's going on, I just don't believe that it's prevalent enough to warrant any kind of news story. BB gun wars now... everyone my age knew people that did that. My dad told me that If I every aimed mine at anyone I would lose it forever. That was enough to keep me out of it.

i dunno. people having been calling young people 'stupider these days' for as long as there have been young people.

do a few eat tide pods? possibly.

but then if fewer of them go out drunk driving (which was a big passtime when i was in highschool) i'd say on balance they're smarter these days, not stupider.
