Need a new (probably pre-owned) vehicle
Big K thinks I'm losing points on my man card if I get a minivan.

So recommend a nice, manly SUV, or better yet, bigass diesel pickup truck - that has:

- a low floor height so the toddler can get in and out.

- Seats 5-7 people (between 1 and 2 of them in car seats)

- a sliding door would be nice so said toddler doesn't bang it against other cars in the parking lot.

- A ton of interior space for camping equipment, a couple of bikes and bike trailer, dog, groceries, etc...

- can tow a small (1500# or so) pop-up tent trailer.

Haha. I drive a minivan. I love it. I can still do a lot of manly things despite my appearance.

No, only inferior men feel they need to compensate with cars. You need a minivan.

Minivans rock! My wife has one and I would gladly take it from her. When it was time to get a new car I wanted a second Toyota Sienna but my wife kaiboshed as I had to settle for a cheaper, smaller SUV. No I have to fold seats down when I go to get lumber or take stuff to the dump.

Remember - It's important to be comfortable in your own skin... because it turns out society frowns on wearing other people's

Minivan all the way. Best damn vehicle we owned when the kids were younger. We've downsized to a Subaru Outback, but damn we miss the space.

What's more manly than an all wheel drive minivan that allows you to go where you want while carrying an abundance of masculine, tough guy gear, all covered in the relative shelter of a vehicle's interior and still allowing you to carry your gang of next-generation outdoorsmen and their ragged companions? Sure, you could get a big ass extended-cab diesel truck and throw a bunch of gear in the back, but do you really want to be associated with the masses of idiots & pussies who purchase giant trucks because they look tough, but are too scared to scratch the bed by using it for its intended purpose? Or do you want your gear to be exposed to the prying hands and eyes of thieves? Nope, you want a friggin minivan, BK's bias against them be damned.

Agreed. Minivan is by far the most practical vehicle out there. I wish I had one, but no way am I paying the price for one.

How well does your $3000 bike fit inside a manly SUV? Not very manly sitting on the curb crying over a damaged bike after being rear ended. Just sayin'.

Don't forget your custom boxing gloves used for hitting the ropes with your pet kangaroo, named Ringo. Think a truck would have enough seats for your grubby spawn and a muscle-bound 'roo?

I have a Toyota Highlander. It's basically a slightly more expensive, slightly smaller sienna for people who are too vain for a mini van.

I love it!

(Okay- I totally suck at parking and need the clearance to bounce my tires rather than my bumper off the curbs.)

My 87 yo dad can transfer from a wheelchair into it- so it's not too high. No sliding door though.

Get a minivan. There is nothing wrong with it. We have never owned one, don't need to; but we have rented them for long trips. Best vehicle out there for what you are asking a vehicle to do.

A Highlander or Pilot is likely my next vehicle. A minivan would be at the top of my list, but Mrs. MWR holds a fairly significant trump card against it. She, sadly, is one who is too vain for the mini van, but apparently not too vain to have her car be an absolute shit hole disaster of filth, hazard, and trash, something that would be temporarily condemned until cleaned out if it were a dwelling. Which is somewhat OK, because that does mean that I won't have to inherit her car the next time around but it does mean that I have to get an SUV instead so I'm not sentenced with driving her car every time we go somewhere as a family.

Ford Explorer.
Seriously.
They are great cars.
Everything you want outside of the sliding door.

Most likely will be my next car.

Meh, only if you get the ecoboost engine. The V6 blows.

Are there any minivans that actually have decent engines? I love the practicality of a minivan, but haven't seen one that has a solid combo of pickup + efficiency. But I haven't really looked...

Hmm, if only there was a vehicle that had everything I wanted, not just most of the things I want.

I have a dodge caravan 4.0 liter. No sports car but when I hit the gas no slouch. I get about 20mpg which is pretty good for what I do with it. 251hp definitely a step above the 3.6

I was talking to 2 different women today, each of whom have 2 young kids, about their dodge caravans. Each of them were anti-minivan prior to the purchase of the minivan, and each of them love their vans now. My sister also owns one (she has 2 young kids) and loves hers.

The only people who dislike minivans that I know are people who have never owned one.

That said. A minivan isn't manly enough for me (according to big k) so I'm looking for a STTV (suburban troop transport vehicle)

My Highlander Hybrid has 306hp and gets ~27mpg. The electric motor is quick too. It is super smooth and quiet. I wonder when they will offer a sienna hybrid. The electric motor and stop start is perfect for school drop off line. I can get from my house through the drop off line without the engine starting.

that drag strip doesn't really mean much, as the BRZ/86/FRS is basically powerless and has the rear tires of a Prius (in a RWD car).

Just bought a '14 grand caravan with 30k Kim's on it.

It's red, so it's fast.

So, what you need is a Chevrolet Suburban.

Pink? Maybe. Maybe not. You decide.

I helped my sisters shop for mini vans. The Honda Odysseys we drove had plenty of oomph for a van. Honestly wasn't bad at all to drive.

Or you can always go with this...
