Sweet!

I'll be back with a pick by tomorrow morning--if I'm not mistaken it's a two-hour premiere, which is a little unusual, but then again so is the relatively late start for the season. Have no word if there will be multiple tribals in the opener...

Edited to add:
Week 1: Tony Vlachos

Well, shit.

Good episode(s) though...was a little bit wondering, given how much Probst seemed to be downplaying this season, how it would play out. Early on, it certainly exceeded expectations.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be observing the rest of you from my underground spy shack....

Bummer man..... the first pick is always the hardest... pure crap shoot. Plus we had two chances to get knocked out. I'm just happy that the tribe Cirie was on didn't go to tribal... seems like there was an interest in voting her off.... I was getting worried.

I hadn't looked really close to see if we were going to have two tribals, but I suspected there would be...and I knew Tony wouldn't be long for this game but figured he'd at least make it past one tribal.

What I didn't count on was his tribe going back-to-back with losses, though Malcolm did a pretty amazing job at the almost come-from-way-behind win.

Were I Tony, I would have gone completely opposite of how I played last time, just to really keep them guessing. He erroneously decided on going much bigger, much quicker than his winning season...oh, well, it made for great tv while it lasted.

That was my basic strategy too
.... they've been bouncing a lot of different possibilities on the other tribe. I feel I have a better handle on the Mana tribe after they voted off two. He's likable they need him for challenges and there was no inkling that he had any kind of mark on him for elimination at this point.

Double elimination next week?? How will we play that?

Re: Survivor season 34 survivor [JMac650c] [ In reply to ]

Yeah... I caught that. What makes it kind of tricky is the way they presented it in the preview was that it was one challenge both losing tribes go to tribal counsel. Normally I would think one pick for the first elimination and a second pick the second elimination and order matters. So if your 1st pick gets eliminated in the 2nd round you are safe and/or if your 2nd pick gets eliminated in the first round you're safe.

I suppose they still have to do it one team at a time.... even if both teams come together to a double tribal counsel. Unless everyone wants to do a single pick and two shots for your pick to get eliminated we can do two picks order matters.

I leave this game with my head held high, knowing I gave it my all. Good luck to the remaining competitors.

If they keep up this rate of tribe swaps, it will be extremely difficult to make picks each week. Alliances will be changing day to day, making each pick a total crap shoot.

Since they have already done a tribe swap and all the competitors know each others past play, my first thought was that two tribes go to tribal and vote one person out. Would they vote with their current tribe, their past alliances, or on previous season's relationships and reputations? The have made it very risky to let a tie happen, which could make people jump ship at the last minute. That could make for a CRAZY tribal, which would explain Jeff's reaction during the preview.

I didn't even think of that..... that would really be a twist but if they have equal numbers it would just be a deadlock. I assumed each team would have a tribal or they might bring them in together and let them watch the other team go through tribal and a vote off.

How many of them would stick to their original vote and risk drawing rocks, vs how many would not want to take that chance and would flip their vote? That is why it would get interesting.

I would disagree. If your pick for the second goes out on the first vote you really don't have a pick in the second. Just as we can't pick Cierra or Caleb. My choice would be one or two picks and they must clear both votes. With the unpredictability of survivor and not completely certain 2 people will be going home I would lean towards one pick and they survive.

I am good with whatever just let me know.

Good tease for next week. Not really sure what will happen.

In the past when a double elimination was teased we made one choice and hoped for the best.

I'm fine with one vote for the episode it is more simple but the two vote ( order matters) is intriguing and does offer us a deeper level of strategizing for our picks... just like the game evolves.

coecoe13 stated :

That's just the point... you don't know ahead of time.... that would be a jackpot pick. Not only are you safe on the second round but also one of your picks is eliminated.

My worry is that although both losing teams go to tribal we are not certain that two are being voted off.... I guess we could go with first pick counts if only one goes home and second pick will not be counted as a pick so you could use them again.

Either way is fine... I will leave it to davec since he is the creator/ Jeff Probst of our game. : )

Very strange tribal. I don't think JT set up Malcolm...I really believed he thought they were going for Sandra, but great result for Sierra who 1. got saved, 2. turned the team on Malcolm.

I am kind of glad I lost out so early, my strategy from last season wouldn't stand a chance this time. The logic behind who gets voted out each week seems very different from most past seasons. Players know the mental game of the other players due to them all having prior seasons experience. And the rules are changing so much each week, especially with the repeated tribe swaps. Tribals have been crazy too. It has been a pretty entertaining season so far.

Did Tai purposely do what he did at tribal to throw off Sandra and Varner or did he just get super lucky that dumbass move didn't send him packing (with two immunity idols)?

I was watching while on my bike trainer and didn't hear every word and wasn't really focused on what was going on.

Pretty sure there was a lot we didn't see from last night's Tribal...as nervous nellie as Tai was, I was really surprised he didn't play one of his idols.

Another very enjoyable episode but hoping that the rest of the season holds up, as we are losing pretty big characters and personalities early on. But, so far, so very good.

I don't think Tai is that good at strategy. He screwed up, and the rest of the team knew enough to stick with the original plan. He got super lucky.

However, if he had played (one of) his idol(s) the outcome would have been the same even if they all voted for Tai. He would have voted for Sandra (I think) and she would have gone home. That would have been sweet, and they would have flushed an idol. Did anyone think of that??

I have to believe it was heavily edited to show us that perspective. Otherwise it makes no sense that essentially everyone was verbally seeming to switch to Tai and on top of that Tai never used one of his (two) idols. it was a unanimous vote. Doesn't add up vs what we saw on TV.

Thats what I was thinking while watching.
Was hoping that the team was cohesive enough to ignore Tai's ranting and stick to the plan.

Sandra is/was scary slick when it comes to manipulation of others and it looked like she was working her magic again and Tai was going on the chopping block.

When the episode teased all these new things i went with what I thought was a safer pick,Tai. When he found the second idol i knew for sure I wold get through the week. You might be able to guess what I said when he did not play an idol. I agree that it must have been heavily edited or there would be no way to not play the idol.
One other thought, the new way for exile island was an excellent plan by CBS that went to a total waste when Debbie got sent there. If a semi-reasonable person went I think an outsiders perspective would be a great help.

Wow, epic mistake at tribal. Varner May have stayed if he kept his mouth shut about Zeke.

Does make one question the editing? How did they manage to make the challenge word "metamorphosis" and have the word used during tribal.

Did the producers know what was going to happen at tribal before it happened?

I wondered that too.

As soon as he said it I think everyone's reaction at home and one the show was the same, "Dude, that is fucked up."

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

I'm sure the "metamorphosis" has to do with the "Game Changers" theme, and not what happened at tribal.

Haven't had a chance yet to watch the episode, yet I could not avoid the headlines this morning and have read a bunch about it...be curious to see it play out on my tv later, but yeah by all accounts, that was one fucked up moment on Varner's part.

For the other players, if they want to have a chance at winning, they have to make sure Zeke does not make it to the end. That may have been part of the smarter players' plan anyway, but now it's paramount. He sits in that Final Tribal as anything but a juror, and he wins almost no matter what.

I thought the same thing about metamorphosis..... that seemed very coincidental. It was a stupid jerk thing for Varner to do but it's been how many years of lying and backstabbing and sabotage.... using personnel information and breaking peoples trust yet this somehow is so much more egregious that everyone melts down and they don't even go through the formality of voting process... and the parting scene leaves Varner sobbing like he should be on suicide watch. A little to much histrionics for me.

Lying and scheming in the context of the game is one thing. This felt completely different and way over the line. Zeke appeared to be completely devastated by the comment.

Isn't Varner also gay?

Varner is gay. To Varner it was in the context of the game ( stupid and a jerk move ) but he was trying to contort it into a trust issue. What's confusing to me is that Zeke came out as openly gay in the last Survivor he was on and even got someone else to come out of the closet. That was a lie. Can't speak to Varner's thinking but it is confusing.... so Zeke your really a girl but you like guys so you are "identifying" as a gay man even though you are a heterosexual female. Plus I read that during the audition he told the producers he was trans so they knew. It could be behind the metamorphosis challenge with the hope that at some point during the game he would admit it on camera or at the season finale he would announce it.

Pain or damage don't end the world, or despair, or beatings. The world ends when you're dead, until then you're due for more punishment. Stand it like a man. And give some back.

I think so coecoe13 and I are the only ones who made the week 4 pick. Boy that Deb went off the rails.... she's a crazy lady. After that you can be sure I won't get near her with a ten foot pole as a pick. You were lucky you picked her already.... to bad you forgot to vote.

Does this mean you have won again? And this time super early. There are still 10 people to go!

Phew... didn't think my last pick was going to make it. Through a double elimination episode no less. That was my last available pick also so I am done. Can't wait to see how this all finishes up next week.
