Probably not the coolest or cheapest but my wife and I are headed to Atlanta this weekend for 3 days. Really our first weekend away without our 2 year old, staying at the Mandarin Oriental, gonna eat some good food, drink and relax!

NYC or San Fran.

Great food, great entertainment, great sightseeing.

You are a lucky man - just travel and make the most of it. I'm just back from El Gouna in Egypt - fantastic. I would definitely recommend it - sun, scuba diving, beaches, great atmosphere and food, great people and hotels. Enjoy it, whatever you do.

Another vote for San Fran - plenty to see and do, great food options. Light jacket weather this time of year compared to Detroit or NYC.

Let me know if you need any good food recommendations. Always enjoy giving restaurant recs.
You're right in the heart of Buckhead, but in my impression the better food is over in midtown, inman park, and west midtown.
Pretty close to Sweetwater brewery if you're interested in good beer tasting. Plus you can get some of Atlanta's best BBQ at Fox Bros near Sweetwater. They're closed on Sat and Sun, but open for lunch during the week.
If you're looking for a good run go northeast along Peachtree and turn left on Brookhaven Dr. You can run around Capital City Country club which is a popular running area.

We have dinner reservations at Bones on Friday night and La Grotta Saturday. Figured we would just wing it for lunch, any other lunch suggestions?

Good stuff. I've done all of those things.

Hey we're coming down for a night in two weeks and will probably stay in midtown. I was thinking of the Krog area for the afternoon and one of the Rathbun steakhouses for dinner. Which one is best (beef and wine)?

A few years back my wife and I stayed in Buchpkhead for a few days. Went out one night and wound up drinking beer and listening to a lady sing at a place constructed like an old pirate/sailing ship. Very strange, but the got a kick out off it. Is that place still around?

Krog street market and the new Ponce City Market are both great lunch options. For Rathbuns and steak, you can't go wrong with Kevin Rathbun Steak. But if you want a little quieter try KR Steakbar. I just went there last week for a work dinner and was really impressed. The only bad thing is its not over by Krog market it is near the Lindburgh marta station in the Buckhead area. But that may be more convenient depending on where you stay in Midtown.

Like my suggestion to Old Hickory. Ponce City market and Krog st market are great lunch options. Both are indoor food stall setups. Krog has a good tap room attached and Ponce has a wine bar. Ponce city market also gives you easy access to the Beltline and Piedmont park. Good for walking off the food and buzz.
Other good lunch places near Buckhead: Eclipse D'Luna for Spanish tapas, Fat Matt's Rib Shack, Watershed on Peachtree
Also you can't go wrong with brunch at South City Kitchen. Haven't been to the one in Buckhead. I usually go to the one in Midtown.

Dante's Down the Hatch. I went to senior homecoming there. Great fondue. No. They sold and built the Madarin Oriental hotel on top of the site.

Hell, now it's gonna be 61 and sunny here Saturday .. think i’ll take out the bike. ..and I’m kinda obsessing with training . down 6 pounds since New Years. Thought I’d get a weird flight to like Baffin Island way up in Canada for like 97 bucks or something , but nothing is happening.I don’t drink this time of year so NYC is not what I’m looking for..I always get fucked up there.

That's a bummer. My wife has a conference there in May. I'm going to tag along with our son and was looking forward to showing it to him. He would have loved it.

Fuck #thecheapest ... it's just a weekend. Spend. I agree with New Orleans, but in addition to that I say Key West. Looking forward to getting back to the Keys soon.

You don't have to tell me. And you got it double barrels with a Friday on a holiday weekend. Those are all day rush hour traffic days.
Hope you had a good time.

yeah it was a nice weekend, ate some good food and the hotel was great also. Bones was good but $240 for a nice steak dinner was a little high, we were very impressed with La Grotta the second night. Food was delicious
