I am going to guess it's like Lifetime but includes age groupers with different staggers from the pros, so that, in theory, there will be pro men and women battling age group men and women for the win.

Challenge Roth is putting on an Ironman distance race in the U.S.?

I heard the PEM is involved with the event. They do a GREAT job with New York and Honolulu so I would expect this race to be very well organized. I heard that it is not in a major market, so I'm guessing somewhere in the Mid-South! (Texas, LA, Arkansas, etc) Z

I say Midwest - Heart of America like country!

I hope this doesn't somehow involve Demerly's "dimpled laminate"....or you're in some serious doo-doo....

Good luck getting volunteers to JUST catch bikes and not catch/grab other equipment in the process.

The run wouldn't be a problem, but man think about the chafing issues on the bike! Better make sure you REALLY like your saddle!

I have it on good unnamed authority that this Saturday the WTC will make an announcement that all US IM event are flipping the order of events to run, bike, swim. "The days of fast runners winner the event will be over", "If you thought it made good TV to watch somewhere crawling down the finish line, just think of the great TV in watching hundreds being recused in the last ½ mile of the swim, it might even draw the NASCAR viewers" Due to increase liability rates event directors have stated that entrance fee will be the thousand dollar range.

Sorry KEJ, didn't mean to forget about the female plight. I was basing my statement on participation in a couple nude soccer games but of course alcohol may have played a part in female tollerance of bounce-age in those instances.

The trick for guys is that it has to be cold enough - then you don't have problems. Too warm and you're in for a world of hurt.

I've always thought a point to point swim from Baton Rouge to New Orleans would be a great event. Unfortunately judging from the view form the HUey Long Bridge in Baton Rouge it seems the swim would be deadly. The water runs so fast that the water boils up and down in massive currents.

It'll slow down in the late summer and fall.

Interesting. Jason Halfpap is from Des Moines...assuming that's who the original poster is...you could be close. I wonder if it would take the place of one of the current Olympic races we have or if it would be a new event.

Assuming it is in Iowa, and you'd have to be reasonably close to an airport, the race would have to be either at Big Creek by DSM (and they already do an oly there) or maybe at Red Rock in Pella (45min from DSM and they already do an oly there). The other option would be by Cedar Rapids. There is an RD up there who puts together a couple of nice races (Pigman). CR probably isn't a great place to fly into though....

Will be interesting if it is right in my backyard.

Why would a pro enter a race where a fat-ass AG'er could beat them? Stupid idea.

There's one running race like that already at which some randomly drawn citizen runner gets a head start on the pros and then they try to catch him before he finishes. Too gimmicky I think...

"Socking" would be an event where they've ranked Age-Groupers and are allowing them to race ITU style based on their ranking.

Racing ITU-style for Age-Groupers...that would be shocking...and a lot of fun. Why can't something like that happen?

The Debooms, TJ Tollakson, former Pro JT Quann, Jeff Castro finished in the top 60 at Kona a few years back. JJ Bailey won the LA Triathlon amateur division and got 3rd at Lifetime last year. Iowa is acutally better than most states I would say.

Where we be able to get details of this announcement? Wheat time will the announcement be made?

As an Iowa resident, I can only hope that said announcement somehow includes a free bike for me. Really, with millions apparently on the line here, what's a couple grand?

I'm sure there are a lot of AG'ers who would like to race ITU Style (myself included). And to simplify it with 'drafting sux' is a little ignorant--drafting does suck, but that is not what ITU racing is all about.

and i'm a pretty slow runner....but it would still be fun trying to 'attack' the group like they do in bike racing....

and it would be a shocking announcement....right?

The announcement will be made at 9am CST on the steps of.......the Iowa State Capitol.

Believe me, if you're deep enough into triathlon news and gossip that you read slowtwitch all day long, you are going to hear the details in short time. Should be on all major triathlon internet sites shortly after the announcement.

If you want to experience pack riding an option would be to do some bike races. I have, and never will again. Dangerous stuff IMHO. But, to each his own!
