$260 for what is essentially a glorified $50 laptop stand, albeit with a power strip bolted on, internal cable routing and a groove machined in the top so your iPad or phone will stand up. Oh, and a couple of hooks for your towels/hoodie.

I used some scaffolding to make a standing / biking desk - adjusts to almost any height - holds a ton of weight and when not on the trainer I can paint the ceiling.

Hello Thomas Gerlach and All,

I like it ... will get closer to my bike over the front wheel ..... my Harbor Freight unit won't get that close .... Maybe the Harbor Freight unit can go in the kitchen or be useful for tools.

Ordered the Medical Table for delivery in 3 days.

The new small flat screen TV's are very light and should fasten easily to that bedside Medical Table for Trainer Road and the like ....

If it doesn't work for my bike I will use it to serve breakfast in bed to my wife on Valentine's Day.

Thanks

Cheers, Neal

I was waiting for the fern thread to be a joke but I gave up on the first page.

Someone asked about a music stand - I got the nicer one from Guitar Center for $50 vs the less expensive shakier one for $35. My criteria was: has to survive a cat possibly jumping on it. I'm happy with what I got but it seems the medical table is really the best idea.

PS, my original pain cave was also an unglamorous basement. Dreary as hell but got the job done.

Mine is a dreary basement - until we got the walls recovered with white stucco/plaster stuff it looked like something out of "Silence of the Lambs", although it does have a cement floor not dirt. The one "luxury" I've granted myself is to hook up a 32" LCD using a folding ceiling-mount bracket, mounted to the joists. It has the ability to swing up and lock into place so that the TV can sit parallel to the ceiling when not in use, but I never bother doing that as it's out of the way anyway. Laptop sits on my workbench next to my bike/trainer but a laptop stand/medical table would probably work a lot better.

And that fern thread is gold.

I had this desk growing up as a teenager in my parents house. When I moved out I took it apart and labeled each piece. 8 Years later I assembled it for my pain cave.

Yeah, no thanks.

I have a TV directly in front of me. My PC is set up with a swivel-wall mount so I can bring the monitor from the desk closer to the TV/Bike set-up (to the side a bit). and as far as holding crap....I'm a fan of the bar stool to hold my wireless keyboard /w touchpad and TV/roku remotes.

I agree it is a joke. Frankly, I spent $50 on the following medical table and it was easily the best $50 I spent all last year.

http://www.thomasgerlach.com/2016/10/best-indoor-trainer-cycling-stand-desk.html

My first workout table was a music stand. Used that for quite a few years and it works great. Then I saw Gerlach's review of this table. Ordered it ASAP. My wife is a nurse, so she laughed pretty hard when she saw I had a hospital bed table next to my bike. Asked if I wanted a bed pan. I said no, I just pee directly on my bike like a grown ass man. But seriously, the "Thomas Table" rocks. I love it. Thanks for publicizing it, man!

Thanks for the kinds words. I wonder if you pull a Neal and serve her up Valentine's day breakfast on it if she will still be laughing.

I actually think it makes you weaker.

It's pretty hard to get fired about about spending hours and hours in a pain cave when it looks like that.

I've trained a lot indoors on everything, and one of the biggest factors in terms of making it happen consistently is having a setup that you actually look forward (well, as much as you can look forward to a hammerfest like a 2 x 20 @ FTP) to.

Hopefully this setup has been amply upgraded!

You are more than welcome - glad I can save people a few bucks for what I feel is a better solution to begin with. A couple of people have messaged me about modifying them as well and adding their own powerstrips.
