New Way Past Fast in Vancouver
That's right, the owners of Way Past Fast in Calgary are opening a new store in Vancouver. 2,000 square feet of triathlon and road expertise from triathletes. We are a FIST certified shop in Calgary and will be sending more of our staff to be trained by the great Dan Emfield. We realize more than having great equipment, it's a waste of your hard earned money if it doesn't fit, regardless if we're talking about bikes, wetsuits, clothing or nutrition.

Our bike lines will consist of, but not be limited: to Cervelo, Felt, Orbea, Opus and more. For Wetsuits, we are carrying Ironman, Orca, Highway Nineteen, and DeSoto. We have in stock about 100 suits at any one time, so chances are we will have the suit and the size to fit you properly. Clothing will be highlighted by Oomph!, Craft, Orca, Louis Garneau and Giordana. We will also be heavily stocked in race wheels, accessories and nutritional products.

We will be opening at 2616 W 4th ave in Kitsalano on or near the 15th of January 2006 and a huge grand opening sale on the 4th and 5th of February. If you want to drop by while we are building, we would love to have you come on down and see us. We are also in need of some knowledgable staff, both full and part time, in Sales, Management and Mechanics. We are also looking to sponsor some clubs and/or teams in the area as well as races. As owners of Sub10 Events, we will also be looking to put on some races of our own in the area, so keep your eyes peeled to our website of www.sub10events.com for more info.

If you'd like more info, feel free to email me at mark@waypastfast.com.

Cool store (atleast in Calgary), they get involved in the sport and also host races (Sub 10 Events) that are the best around here.

Always find there isn't 'pressure' to sell you something, nice relaxed atmosphere and good guys that work for them. I'm sure the store in Vancouver will be run much the same way.

Make sure to buy your P3C from WayPastFast before Kyle wins an Ironman. Then you can say, "I knew he was going to win one, and I thought I would support the store that has supported him." Then you'll look cool to all your friends and everyone wins.

Trust me on this. Kyle will win, and he'll be on a WayPastFast bike. The mojo you get just from buying a bike from there is awesome :)

I'll vouch for WayPastFast.

That's a pretty loaded statement, amigo. While Greg may not be open 10am-9pm or 7 days a week, it really isn't fair to say that he doesn't appreciate business.

Having said that, a tri store in Kits will be a very welcome addition to the community.

Khai, I agree with you about your comments on Greg. The comment was not welcomed at all. It is always good to have another store in town that caters to the triathlete.

C'mon guys can't we all just get along. I don't see us as being competition to Tri Action. I've talked to Greg and I hope we can all work together. There's more than enough to go around. I just hope we can fill any gaps and give great service in Vancouver. I appreciate everybodys comments and suggestions as we are new in Vancouver and take our customers very seriously. I'm sure greg and I will be trying to help each other.

Come in and visit anytime guys and spread the word.

if you are in Kits and Greg is in Coquitlam the competition will be marginal at best....i've stopped by your store in Calgary while on business and it is excellent - however no way would i drive from Port Moody to Kits when I have Greg 10 mins away - and I'm sure the opposite would apply...

Not sure how long Greg will be in his current location though that would force me to make the drive...

And therein lies my point. There is enough room in Vancouver for more than one store. There is also Pacific Multisport in Vancouver. Don't forget about them. Anyway, if you've seen the Calgary store, you'll have to come to the new Kits store. It will be like no shop you've ever seen before. Not that the store makes the shop, but we like to cover all our bases. All I can say is that I'm totally excited about it. Can't wait to open and meet the triathletes of Vancouver. I will be coming out to manage the store. So, if anyone wants to come down, I like Starbucks hot chocolate. Not a coffee drinker. I'm not sure if this hurts my chances of making friends in Vancouver, given all of the coffee shops out there.

Welcome to my town! Looking forward to exploring your store. I agree that there is enough business in Vancouver (and the lower mainland in general) to keep everyone happy and busy. Triathlon is growing rapidly here. There is a lot of local buzz for IronMan Canada 2007 (the 25 year anniversary) so you've come at the right time.

Hey, Mark I think you have your timings all wrong and should opening for the Christmas holidays. This would in no way be coloured by the fact that I am only in town between 23rd December and 2nd January ;-)

Will you be demo'ing wetsuits - I need a new one but want to make sure I get the right fit (now that I'm fatter). Kits pool isn't too far away - I'll promise not to put fingernail nicks and cuts in the suit.

Absolutely. We have a full rental program consisting of Ironman Stealth wetsuits in all sizes. But we only have so many, so if you know what races you are doing and need to rent, call early. So, whether you want to rent for arace or just try one out, we can fit you up. Does anyone else know if rentals are available anywhere else?

and disc wheels - ya gotta rent them out - - ? As far as introducing races goes, are you planning on creating new ones or taking over current ones? Whonnock Lake is RIPE for a spring DU in Feb/March/April. Zolfingen West anybody?

But seriously, why leave Calgary, the bike rides to Cochrane on those sunny February Sunday mornings can't be beat. =-)

I don't know about discs, but we do rent out american Classic 58mm Carbon wheels.

We will probably start our own races, so if anyone has any ideas where would be good, email me at mark@waypastfast.com.

Mark, don't mean to be nitpicking, but if you want to announce something like this you ought to make sure you're spelling things correctly:

It's Dan Empfield, not Dan Emfield

and you're opening a store in Kitsilano, not Kitsalano.

Damn! Gotta love the city though. They screwed up all our permits and then I got rear ended on the way out of the parking lot by a 90 year old guy in a 90 year old white Volvo. So, you could say I got rear ended twice.

YVR Drew, you should hang out at the store plenty. You'll be able to buy lots of speed there, something you'll need this summer in Penticton!
