I'm wondering that myself, looking to get new ones, but don't want to spend a mint. I've been leaning toward the Pateo Elite, regular bottle size, in aluminum, I saw something like it in a faux carbon for about $15. Then there's what I call the figure 8 design, minimal, does the job, looks cool when empty.

I've been using a Performance black design, but they stopped selling it.

There are some nice carbon ones out there for about $50. Nothing less would do for your bike.

My personal favorite are the new ones from Profile Design (Stryke Kage?). Not the ones with the rubber band that are often on the behind-the-saddle- things but the molded ones. Light, durable (so-far) and they don't scratch good bottles with team graphics. They come in Carbon as well but I think you need to be pretty fast to show up with a $50 bottle cage on your bike.

You want a Tacx Tao - as seen on CSC's bikes, etc... they're super light even when not made of carbon, and are available for less than $15 each. I've got 2 on my soloist, in silver w/black. Super easy to get bottles in and out of, they weigh something like 37 grams each, and look great. Plus nothing's ever fallen out of them.

well it's gotta be carbon, duh nothing else is cool right now

make sure it's glossy carbon, maybe a Zipp cage or those Reynolds or Profile cages are pretty saweeeeet. A friend of mine has a cool carbon cage on her P3sl, can't remember the name though and it's matt carbon anyways. OH OH OH wait, got it, the Campy Record carbon cage! Over $100 with a cool Tacx bottle!!!!!!!!

If not carbon, a King Ti cage is the next best.

Yes sir! American Classic. Truly is one.

Or, if you can find one, the CATEYE nylon cage. YOU WILL NEVER LOSE A BOTTLE FROM ONE NOR WILL IT HARDLY EVER BREAK (the cage I mean). Super light too and cheap (but not looking).

Hmm. I'd have used "stupid", but "fast" works, too, I guess.

(unless you routinely miss the top podium step by 0.00001 sec, and you are single digit body fat, and have been optimally fit on the bike in a wind tunnel, and the data analyzed by the computers at NCSA, and reviewed by people with Ph.D.s in this stuff, in which case, it could matter, I suppose.)

A $100 bottle cage, and your only worry is someone stealing it? I'd be worried about the fact that anyone thinks it's ok to spend $100 on a bottle cange.

It's a bottle cage...it holds bottles. That's it, and that's all it will ever do. Unless it's made out of cast iron, a bottle cage isn't going to slow you down.

Let's be realistic. $5 gets you a plastic bottle cage - it's light, will NEVER get stolen, and will last longer than you want it to.

$100??? I know everybody's priorities are different, but you could get 100 beers for that price...

Yes 100 is crazy....but if you saw were this bottle holder had to go and how much it distracts from the bike you would want something that at least looks nice.....

100 beers, haha, stinkin hilarious, but I am SOOO with you. When I get a new bike, I'm thinking about some stainless steel blackburn chicane cages for around 10 bucks a piece. 41g is certainly an improvement of my elite cuissis i have now which are around 75. And I still have PLENTY OF MONEY FOR Alchoholic beverages. ;)

Just bought a pair of the Profile Stryke cages for frame mounting. They are light, very functional( bottles go in/out easily and are held firm) and at $6.99 seem like a bargain. Not sure whey you would need to spend more than this.

Pedro's. Cheap, lighter than carbon, non-marking.
Depends on what you consider cool. I think recycling is cool, but opinions differ..

"It is a good feeling for old men who have begun to fear failure, any sort of failure, to set a schedule for exercise and stick to it. If an aging man can run a distance of three miles, for instance, he knows that whatever his other failures may be, he is not completely wasted away." Romain Gary, SI interview

Specialized are the way to go (in my opinion)...I've got the Rib Cage Pro on both my road and tri-bike and have never had a problem.

Plus they look really sharp...

I agree with Maxx. The Specialized Rib cage rules. On 2 separate occassions I had the Tacx Tao cage break on me. Both times it was in the middle of a long ride. While they look cool, they don't perform their one basic function. For the past year, I have used the Rib Cage on an Xlab and NEVER had a bottle eject, even over railroad tracks w/ full bottles. It's much cheaper than the carbon ones being suggested. You can get it in a faux carbon, which I have, or a color to match the bike, and it's light. What more do you want???

Well, actually now these are also available in carbon ($69): http://www.glorycycles.com/tataocafiboc.html

I have Tacx Tao on all of our bikes and do like them but they have one weekness - at least in my case, the plastic where the cage mounts to the frame has a habit of separating from the aluminum. The net effect is that when you least expect it, reaching for a bottle might result in the cage comming with the bottle - something which I have seen several times when I first started using these cages early last year but have not had a problem with recently.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have the PRofile stryke on my dual, and the blackburn stainless on my road bike. both are a good value and work very well.
I use the blackburns on my flatwing also.
