plus having the chain in the small chainring when taking the picture should result in the immediate disqualification from the competition of "The Hottest Bike" :)

Okay Notes for everyone else posting:

Mount largest chainring you can find

Chain should be in Big/Small gearing, bonus points for 56/11 or better

Borrow friends Ergostem and slam it for the photo.

Photoshop out spacers

Blur background to make it go faster

THAT WAS JUST A RUMOR, truth was that he was so short I never even saw the bastard and when I stopped to take a picture with these two Portuguese bikini babes watching the race (later found to be plants by some guy named "Sedi") he ran right by me. At least he was short though and didn't get in the picture:)

"no aerobars??????" please tell me you are joking, now I feel really pathetic, I'm going to have to take out some spacers till the pain in my back and neck erases those painful memories.

As SAC said, it's really not about the bike!! ;-)

Both bikes are pretty sweet, but each has its problems:
Cervelo:
Campy+
Renn +
Zipp +
Oval Straights +
Cervelo - (too mainstream)

Roark:
Frame + (niche)
Zipps + (could be improved with a disc)
Vision Bars - (not as cool as the ovals)
SLR + (always cool)
King Headset +
Shimano -

The Roark frame with the Cervelo build would win for sure.

I just measured it, 4.5cm. I have been F.I.S.T. fitted on this bike and I can't get any lower, angles just don't work. I have long femers, just like Lessing. I am going to have spacers on any bike. The steerer is not carbon, therefore there is no "safety" issue.

Yeah, it doesn't look as cool as Bjorn's bike , but I really don't care.

I second the "ick" on the spacer stack. I've got more drop from seat to bars on my road bike. Bonus points for the completely unneccessary but very cool zipp bottle cage. Lower your front end and put some zero gravities on there instead of what appear to be the cervelo brakes and we could have a winner in my book.

Greg,

Are those the aluminum Oval one piece bars? Did you switch out the arm rest with the Profile Designs? I saw the A7?0 set-up the other day and liked them, but the arm rests were weak at best.

I just measured it, 11cm drop (101cm from the floor to the saddle, 90cm from the floor to the top of the arm pads). What is the drop on your road bike?

If I take out the 4.5cm of spacers, it leaves you with a 15.5cm drop. Ouch.

Yes, they are the Oval A700 aluminum bars. I did swap the arm rests for the Profile F-19's. It worked alright, but limited my adjustment, due to the odd bolt pattern on the Profile arm rest. The stock A700 pads were very short fore/aft. This causes your upper body weight to be resting on a very small section of your arm (think surface area and weight distribution). They were very uncomfortable after only about 10 minutes. The Profile arm rests were much better. I have found the Vision Techs to be about equal in comfort.

102 floor-to-saddle (making very sure my seat isn't too high) and 90 from the top of the bar to the floor, 80 from the top of the drop to the floor... I suppose that just emphasises how low the front end of a P3C is when compared to a Soloist.

I retract any implied comment about your position - if it's FIST then I certainly can't say anything about it. That's just a mighty big stack of spacers. Even a 10 degree stem faced up wouldn't take out more than maybe 2.5 cm of those spacers. Which would, of course, add to the coolness factor by some miniscule amount.

Still, all things considered, it's a mighty pretty bike.

Nope, I was suposed to race at GFT couple weeks back. My car accident and broken ribs took that out of the picture. I do not have a Softride together right now as I have my Rocket R1 and a Record kit to the marine via TSR. Next spring I will have the FasTT and the P3 to play with. I am thinking HARD about a new Litespeed also - then there is Elite, David is a great guy and I would love to ride one of his bikes for a season or two. I am thinking that working with David and a fitter I may be able to get off the bike and run a whole lot better than I have been in the past.

- ditched the Profile bars and installed HED S-bend Clip-lites
- gotten a Zipp 404 tubular front, and have a Zipp disc on the way (will be here Monday)

I will try to post a new photo of it with the Zipps once the disc arrives.

I race duathlons and like it.

Nice bike. The Talon never got any respect around here but it really must have been ahead of its time. What is it, five years old now? Look at it compared to some of the latest hot bikes.

Is it just me or did these new hot bikes get a lot of inspiration from the never respected (around here) Kestrel Talon?

PS. You need a new fork. That old Kestrel is way to heavy at about 600g with dubious aerodynamic properties.

I know. The bike is way cool. The wheels are fantastic. And I have a new Brooks sitting in my parts box that I bought just because. It's the mixing of the parts that off. Kinda like low rider jeans and thongs are cool. Humphrey Bogart is cool. Humphrey wearing a thong and low riders, not cool.

What is that rear derailleur on the Pegoretti? Looks kind of non-original for the vintage of the frame.

Hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like a reasonable modern campy with some aftermarket upgrades. The vintage of the bike is pretty current.

sigh . . .

it is a freaking brooks cutaway ! either a swallow or a swift, probably Ti. it is not one with springs, or even a b-17. a swallow or swift is always good to go. nothing cooler, it could be well argued.

and, if the years of the parts are off so much the better.

i mean, what is the competition so far ?? a kestrel, a chinese quintana roo - the p3c or kuota ?? i do not whether to laugh, cry, or fall asleep over that 'contest'. i mean come ON now.

Dude, deep cleansing breath, this is "fun" thread and my answers are in fun. The bike has probably the most high tech bike geek wheels with a saddle that is most commonly associated with friction shifting, triple crank retrogrouches. Just making fun of the contrast, like I said before all of the parts are topnotch. Besides my vote for hottest bike goes to Badmanns Cheetah, especially with the aero or die bars. ;-).

===============================================================================

A pretty current frame, eh? I assumed from the quote that it was Record kit and given that Record ergos have been carbon for some time now that it must be an older frame. I was also caught out by the slimness of the aluminium crank arms and spider, not very modern looking. In that case it looks a bit of a mutt with the carbon frok and chunky stem. Nice bike but not too original in build selection to my eye. That's not to say it isn't quality.

I only said I wanted to see it; I mentioned nothing about saying it rates consideration in this esteemed and prestigious contest. For that matter, I'll go so far as to say the finest Fatti Con La Mani in TIGed steel (Marcelo, Duende...DAMN fine bikes) still doesn't compare to any of the various Luiginos that have been brazed by the hands of the Man. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

For that matter, as fatanical as I am for Dario's creations, I'll still go so far as to suggest that any of his TIGed masterpieces still ain't no Sachs, Eisentraut, Spectrum, Kirk, Vanilla, Weigel, Holland, Mandaric, etc. Luigino yes, the rest, however, no. And no, those bikes by merit of their materials and joining processes are no less race worthy, even if the average ST neophyte only cares about molded plastic, more aero than their BOP/MOP speeds can utilize and, of course, ANYTHING Cervelo. Carbon has it's place, but in the hands of somebody like Calfee, Parlee, Crumpton and yes, I suppose even the un-fricken-believably priced Meivici.

But, that said, I still think the new Duende in the white with octopus sucker scars is the niftiest bike this year, and one that I very much want to own. Dario is cool. Martek isn't.

Nonetheless, I care not for the latest "whatever" from a mold overseas, not because I don't think they're swell bikes in their own rights, but rather because they lack artisanship and soul. And, apropos to this board/forum, razor thin frames don't mean squat to 90% of the people who post here, only they haven't realized that yet. For that matter, most of them will cause their DG tract to go necrotic if they continue trying to emulate Bjorn's position.

Done, rant over. I'm going to go ride my lugged Waterford now. (Oh, and I know Jerk would hate my stem.)

question the build all you want. it's a brooks swallow, it's sort of on there as post modernist joke, but in the same way the emma is the most advanced steel frame in the world, so the swallow is a modern take on an old classic. the aluminum stuff just looks better on this frame, more powerful, less plasticky....the rder is a tiso- the jerk liked the way all the coppers and bronzes and kevlar(on the wheels) looked...sort of organic, thouroughly modern, yet handbuilt and balanced....

did the jerk mention how perfect this thing rides? the ultimate kermesse/crit bike.

130, which is not quite long enough for my superman position; so I may have to go 140.

Sorry. That data's only available on a need-to-know basis. Actually, I made the wheel to make the Computrainer feel more realistic. Turns out it barely made a difference. I subsequently replaced the CT flywheel (which spins about 30 times as fast) with an 18lber.

Ok, add my Zipp wheels and Zipp carbon bottle cage holder to Jens' bike and we have a winner. (The SRM is super nice, but I personally like the look of of the black FSA crank)

The P3C is hot! I don't understand the rankings, Kuota Kalibur (plain black), The black Talon (more plain black). The Roark is ok, plain ti, but I don't care for the graphics. The P3C is unique from any other bike. Don't get me wrong, black is pretty cool, but the red pops. If you are going to vote for a straight black bike, NYSLIM should win hands down. The all carbon weave is sweet!

It's a medium-deep rim. I used a little paper funnel and poured the shot into the spoke holes; taped the holes; shook it; then topped each hole off. The rim tape holds the shot in. Although, they're wedged in so tight, it's not really needed.

I had a machine shop make the flywheel out of steel. I just approach cycling the way I do everything else: determine who's best at it; model them; look for things they might have missed; then try to optimize every single thing, down to the tiniest detail. The world is just one huge constrained optimization problem......

aero bottle mount is home made from a 0.10" thick piece of carbon fiber plate. Made the plate in our lab but you can buy it online from several sources. Google "composite store" or something like that. I swear the site was called the compositestore.com but it doesn't seem to come up. I used a fine tooth hacksaw (fast) to rough it out and then a dremel tool and finally wet dry sandpaper to finish it up. Make sure not to breath the dust in, wear a mask, do it outside and wetsand the final steps. I'd sen a template but it'd be useless as it's dependent on the width of your aerobars. For the aero bottle cutout, do it with paper first and then when you get it right transfer it to the carbon sheet. The whole thing is secured down with 1/16" 4-40 button head screws going into tapped holes in the aerobar extension mounts. Works great, super light and took less than an hour to make (excluding making the carbon sheet)

good luck:)

Timothy, Timothy, Timothy.... :-)

Having a design background, you remind me of all the engineers who drooled over functionality ;-) LOL

I propose there are 2 divisions of "hottest bike"...a masters for those who dig ugly but cool "old school", and then - works of art (predominantly aesthetic based).

Of course, even the carbon works of art don't seem to have alot of attention to detail (except for Tai's, who appears to have colors matching all over the place ;-)

...and you can't have a red/white bike with yellow writing on wheels...or silver cabling....or a black/red/yellow bike with siver chain rings.

Details people...chainrings/cables/brakes/skewers/pulleys all play a part.

Now, we return you back to the regularly scheduled blingfest....

HuH???

Man, an 808 with a PT and a cover is just about the most drool-eriffic thing going! I would trade my Zipp disc for that setup in a heartbeat (and I will throw in my Track disc, too if anyone actually wants to make that trade!) :0)

SuperDave, I was pondering this new TT rig that Felt is unleashing at some point and I wonder... The B2 has all things considered been a value frameset, considering its pedigree, coming in around $1500. Is the new TT frameset going to replace Felt's offering in this price range, or is this a P2C competitor in price? For some reason talk around here got me thinking the unveiling was soon as in the next month, but damn over 3 months.

Also, hows geometry going to change or stay the same? Are you keeping 650s up through 52 cms?

You're close but you still need:

-56T front ring, get rid of the small ring all together!

-Nokon blue anodized cables to truly pimp your ride (maybe toss in some Powercordz too)

-Custom wheel decals, I mean they totally don't match, okay maybe they match the vision bars but that's a stretch

-Your PT head unit doesn't match ANYTHING

Otherwise your bike is close to being a lightning fast looking rocket. What cages are those? Are those the Aereus cages? Nice

Okay... first ride was last night... just making sure that everything was in working order before packing up for Ralph's....

808 PT SL Disc- The first thing i realized was when it free wheels... even with the cover off this hub "buzzes" just like a Chris King or Zipp wheel... and when walking with the bike it makes that very cool "click click click" sound as well. I'd take a gander that the cycleops guys knowing that this thing was going to be raced in Le Tour took apart zipp/chrisK/Dura-ace hubs and tried to figure out what made them tick. spining the axel in my fingers the SL "feels" (subjective i know) A LOT smoother than my Standard hub. On the road it was great. The bike responded just as it would with any race wheel set... my bike is done up for training at around 23 pounds... 909 PT SL set up it was 18.5, so it felt VERY zippy... of course i am tapered as well so there is some bias there but overall the ride quality was excellent and the cover held tight. Had some issues with shifting due to the cover being on the hub in addition to the D/A spacer (this is required to keep the lagest cog free of the cover when free wheeling) so switched to friction... you can stay in index and it will work fine-->okay but switching to friction it was smooth like butta'. As for a sound... no WHOOSH WHOOSH but i did notice that when passing walls closely (sound bounce back) that there is a faint whoosh whoosh component to it.

Any questions. =)

Okay.. my bike has lots of carbon dura-ace blah blah.. but the hottest bike in my shed is my son's.

What defines a hot bike?..

Sexy paint job?.. this has a dragon on the top tube!

Lightweight?.. err... it is lighter than my bike!

Customisation?.. Brother bear bell.. in the piccie he even has food stashed in a very handy rack (weeeell, actually it is bread to feed the ducks with)

A hot bike is in the eye of the beholder.. and his face lights up when he gets on it.. the hottest bikes is always your first one.

I can't see where the B2 has always been a value frameset. That frame's validity stated when there were round seat tubes and 1" press in headsets abound. I can look around now and there is a sea of carbon TT bikes out there, but the utility of the B2 has not diminished.

As for what is new, the talk around here seems to be much more informed than I am. hank reardon seems to offer the most insight.

I am pretty certain that 650c wheels are required to make the sizing of our bikes smaller than 52cm fit correctly. I would be suprised if we dropped 50 and 48 cm frames from out size offerings.

I'll post any new information just as soon as I have it and am allowed to share it.

Regards,
SD

I didn't mean value as in a Leader frame make em cheap and sell them cheap. I meant it is considered to be in the ranks of a P3 in performance and quality or above that of any QRoo aluminum offering and still with an equal or lower price tag, thus making it a better value. I agree the original was ahead of its time.

Oh and thanks for the good news on 650s.

Actually, BigZach, the spacer comments appear to be aimed at the Cheetah bike. While the bike does seem to have a decent amount of drop, the spacers are a bit much.

Appears to be just an illusion due to the angle of the bike to the ground and the angle of the camera to the bike.
