Felt came a long way from '07 to '08, and even farther from '08 to '09. There are nine triathlon bikes in their line, arguably more if consider the options available with the AR.

Any way you shake it, Felt puts pressure on all the other brands to a greater degree iin 2009 than any previous year.

It says the Felt AR1 is spec'ed with Dura-Ace 7970. They are spec'ing it with ELECTRONIC D/A out of the box. Wow that is some devotion Shimano, FELT is a great company but I don't know about this move.

As much product testing as Shimano has done there are always glitches the first go around when you move to mass production over the first hand built products. Example the new Rock Shox SID worked great in the final testing phases that were built by hand in the last pre-production phase. Then at mass production they have had some issues with the lockout mechanism breaking and that is a simple fix just a 10min changing of the damper. A problem with your shifting and you may find yourself in your 53/11 on a 10% grade.

I believe Felt has a deal in place with Shimano to be the first company out with 7970 on a bike. Never forget the American headquarters for Shimano, and Felt's home office are a stone's throw away from one another here in Irvine. They work very closely together. I've now seen 7970 up close, and played with it. I was surprised at how well thought out it is, and also how much testing has been done. They really don't want another Mektronic on their hands, and have been slow to bring it to market. They'll always be issues, but it's been around longer than most people realize, and tested beyond what you might know. The price tag on this bike is very, very high - I doubt many will be made. You should also note that Felt has pre-wired the AR for Electronic so you simply plug in the wires behind the stem, and then near each derailleur. Other manufacturers are doing this too.

As for other Q's, I'm not sure how much to give away, but Felt will have a line of high-end aftermarket goodies that look very good, including the aerobar we've seen, which is super slick, but pricey (no msrp has been settled on, so I don't know the exact figures).

The bikes look amazing in person, including the AR2, which is my favorite, as well. I have the wind tunnel numbers, which I'm not sure I can give away, but I think I'm safe to say that the AR more than doubles the Soloist in drag savings over a traditional round-tubed bike. It won't come with the Bayonette fork, but you can put one on if you choose. I'll check to see if I can release pricing tomorrow.

Ah heck, I'll post one price: the B16 has an msrp of $2249! Very cool - we'll sell a lot of those, for sure.

The new colors are amazing throughout the lineup of virtually all the bikes. This is a huge change of direction for Felt, compared to color schemes of years past. The AR series look phenomenal, not just colors but design. If I needed a new road bike, this would be #1 on my list. I noticed Gerard from Cervelo has already posted once about this bike in another thread. I can almost feel Cervelo getting a little nervous over losing the title of most aero road bike. However I think they are almost ready to throw down their ace in the hole, the P4C. All in all this looks to be a huge step up for Felt. I love my 2008 B2, but am already envious of the new paint for the 09's.

Quite fancy a B2 or AR to replace the P3, and I don't really want/can't afford to buy a full rig and then strip bits off it.

A curbside... naw I'd go with the dispatch first.

So I was talking about bikes with my wife today, and she wanted to know why I need another bike. I explained that having a dedicated road bike, TT/tri bike, mountain bike and beater bike leaves me short of a fixie, a cyclocross bike, and town bike(which could well be the fixie.)

But after seeing the AR I think I could turn my felt f3 into a lightweight plush cruiser and turn the AR into a lean mean crit-road race machine.

As I told a friend over a beer the other night, just because I suck doesn't mean my bike has to.

That's going into my sig line!

The whole line looks incredible. Felt has always (IMO) looked the best. The AR series is sick! No doubt. I do, however like the Z 35 (all black) and Z 45 (black and yellow) bikes a lot. I think I may go after one of them if the price is right. Z-35 team bike is awesome as well. Felt has definitely taken it up a notch this year. I do also like Giant bikes and have seen their line which I know is maybe not that popular in the Tri world, but I do think they make great bikes and their new '09 bikes look great too. But again as we are talking about Felt, I do have to say it is really hard not to fall in love with these bikes. Good thing my LBS carries Felt.

Can someone who knows Felt explain to me what the is the advantage of their bayonet steering system? What is it supposed to give you that a regular steering system does not? I tried checking out their website and found no answers.

the ideal aspect ratio for bike tubes is 3:1. i.e. 3 times longer than it is wide. The Bayonet allows the headtube to maintain a better aspect ratio by making it deeper.

New aerobars have a few versions including the Felt DEVOX Bayonet full carbon bars on the DA as well as the Felt Bayonet bars in aluminum on the B12.

Many features with these bars, the production versions of the DEVOX bars were used in the Olympics and to win the recent US National TT championships last week.

More stiffness and better aero dynamics. The aspect ratio of frame tubes is set by a governing organization (for pros).. The bayonet allows the front to be deeper than allowed because it is two parts (headtube and fork) rather than 1 part (just headtube)

I'm not really sure what the tri rules are, but very few large manufacturers will build a bike that can't be used for all racing. For one it slices an already small market and second pro road TT wins sell bikes to tri geeks.

I was just wondering about the Felt Saddles? Are these made by another company or just for Felt? I may give one a try next season and was wondering how to pick one up.

the longer the aspect ratio (to a point) the less aerodynamic drag there is for a given width. SO... a 20mm wide tube that is 20mm deep will have more drag than a 20mm wide tube that is 60mm deep.

Without getting into yaw, shape, dimples and other really complicated math - it is why deeper wheels have less drag than box rims. drag for a Zipp 303 > Zipp 404 > Zipp 808 > Zipp 1080 etc...

the deepest cross section allowed on a frame by the UCI is a 3:1 ratio. Since you can only reduce the width of the head tube so much since the head tube is limited by the diameter of the steerer tube on the fork the bayonet increases the depth of the head tube, and increases it where it is most effective, so it becomes more aerodynamic.

There are also probably a slew of geometry and handling reasons that SuperDave could go into - but the main one is aerodynamic.

I have one froma 07 B2. I have a favorite, so I never really tried the Felt saddle other than the odd test ride. Make an offer anditsyours.

The saddles are made by a known saddle maker, but exclusively for Felt and from a Felt design. So it's not simply a rebadged something else. Not sure if you can buy them individually. Check with your dealer; if you could buy one stand alone, that'd be how.

Also have the '08 S22, love it!...... Riddle me this about the new bikes. The '08 S22 is listed at 19.7 lbs and the '09 B16 is listed at 20.4 lbs. what gives? So if you can "handle" the ride and not being in the "in" crowd of 100% carbon why should you get the B16 over the S22, heavier and the components are not as good and the wheels are not as deep?

Interesting. The b16 looks like it may have more frame material, more aero? But its carbon...oh well.

The S22 was a great bang for buck ride :)

The prices were up for a split second last week and I think they listed $5599 for the B2r with flashpoints. I should know the exact number, I only stared at it for an hour.
