Re: Places to swim in Sarasota [tyrod1]
I live in Palmer Ranch and do almost all of my runs on the Legacy Trail which is about a mile from my doorstep. I've tried riding on this trail but it's just not appropriate for really hard efforts of any speed. I also created a running route that I do on Sunday Mornings around Siesta Key that I can stretch anywhere from 10-15 miles. For riding I only ride outdoors once a week on Saturday mornings. The south end of Honore Ave is pretty good, I usually ride that up and down a few times between Palmer Ranch and Venice. It's flat and fast with reasonably light traffic. I joined the Storm club and we have OWS at Siesta Key almost every day. I've done the Sunday morning swim with them a few times. As far as pools go I'm at the Potter Park YMCA. The outdoor pool here called the Selby Aquatic Center is a world class facility but hours suck unless you join the Sharks masters club. I can only use it on the weekends. The indoor pool is so-so, they keep it too warm and it's not a very vibrant facility for serious athletes. I'm actually trying to find more outdoor cycling routes, I'll let you know. Feel free to send me a PM.
