Thank you for the detailed reply: this is extremely helpful.

The area where I want to make a right-hand turn across the cycle superhighway is on Farringdon, heading south, where it crosses Ludgate Hill/Fleet Street. Heading toward Blackfriars Bridge, I want to make a right turn onto Bride Lane. Alternatively, I can turn right from Farringdon onto Fleet Street, then turn left onto Bride Lane. In that case, do cyclists get their own light at the junction or do they flow with cars?

My biggest concern is negotiating right turns carefully since the habit of heading into the wrong lane is still pretty strong. The cycle syperhighways throw me off since I can't use experience to anticipate them. I also don't want to make a manoeuvre that would surprise cyclists behind me and cause someone to crash.

I was wondering why those black Addison Lee vans behaved so strangely! Thanks for clarifying that! And I completely agree that overall the behaviour of London drivers is actually really good compared to North America. People seem to have faster reflexes here and don't get as riled up about traffic getting ahead or around them.

IIRC that's one of the newer design of CS which I'm not that keen on.

The bike lanes, north and southbound on Farringdon Road, are next to each other and completely segregated from the road traffic. So if you're a bird, pointing north and looking down, from left to right it goes pavement, kerb, northbound bike lane, southbound bike lane, kerb, divider, kerb, northbound car lane, southbound car lane, kerb, pavement.

Here we go: https://www.google.co.uk/...Q!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 (copy & paste that - I can't figure out how to get it to display as an image).

Bride Lane is between the tree and the redbrick building. You'd be in the bike lane, but there are no traffic lights regulating the junction. So you just have to wait for a gap in the oncoming bike traffic and scoot across it, without getting rearended by anyone heading in your direction. Not really ideal.

I'd probably take the right into Fleet Street then take the left into Bride Lane.
