Re: Running banned in Florida playgrounds [Brent F]
Will a South Florida P.E. teacher please reply here? Oh Yea...thats me! I taught P.E. in Coral Springs for 4 years and now in Clermont for 2. I actually have a masters degree in the subject believe it or not.

Certain playground equipment is dangerous to run around and yes I don't think kids should run through swing sets like a maze when the swings are in use (although we don't use swing sets in our P.E. lessons) or run down slides. I have filled out 100's of injury reports about kids running in places they are not suppose to in P.E. class (like near a swingset or running to get in line or on wet surfaces or just goofing off). We don't let kids run to get in line in p.e. or if they are around equipment where there is a chance they can get clubbed in the head. If we did, that would be just stupid.

Now when we are involved in a lesson, or a game, or an activity in an open area like our big field...that another story...run till your hearts content kids! Run Run Run! We run everyday as part of our warmup and each kid has P.E. every school day at our school. They probably log as many miles as me actually.

Pick and choose your battles people! Get your kids involved in after school activities and quit blaming the school teachers that probably just want the best for your kid.
