FYI - I was on a Mauna Kea tour yesterday (Oct 10, 2017) and our bus passed a hand cyclist on the gravel section past the Visitor's Center attempting the ascent of Mauna Kea. On our return trip back from the peak, we passed him again quite close to the top so I am guessing he made it to the top shortly thereafter sometime around 8pm.

Total darkness with a vehicle behind providing support and a person walking beside the hand cyclist. I have no idea where he started from but I witnessed him on the toughest parts of the ascent and kudos!

That is one BAMF!
