Lennard Zinn had a column about this recently, including the need to swap front and rear braking in those circumstances so neither one gets too hot, of course you may have been doing that and still had the pop.

That is good advice from Leonard. I was probably 70-30 front-rear because I didn't want to skid the rear on a curve.
