Looks like they have a plastic piece on the catch panel.... almost like a paddle.

They look rubber to me. And we have discussed these "catch panels" before. It's a bit of a misnomer. They aren't paddles, they ate designed to create turbulence in the forearm catch phase, you notice they actually will be facing backwards during the pull.

Catch panels have been proven to make a swimmer slower on some suits as well

Wasn't there a front page article where it was stated that most wetsuit manufacturers know this, but only put catch panels on high end suits because the people buying high end suits expect them? I want to say there was an anecdote from someone saying they basically design them to "stay out of the way". My memory could be failing me but I'll try to look it up.
