Probably just a result of a last-minute addition as a Kona qualifier and limited slot allocations. Now that they are pulling KQ slots from all 70.3 races they should be able to equalize most IMs at 50 slots with the exception of the few "Championship" events that would get more.

x2. Most everyone who was going to do an IM this already had signed up for a race before this situation occurred.

Pink? Maybe. Maybe not. You decide.

Hence, I'll probably bite the bullet and sign up on Friday as part of my athlete check-in. I've never signed up that way before so I'm sure somewhere around mile 80 of the ride on Saturday I'll be cursing myself. I just can't beat the convenience of sleeping in my own bed and having the family come out and watch without travel hassle.

If you look at the races on Ironman.com, you can find a number of races (Ironman Copenhagen, Ironman Japan, Ironman Taiwan, Ironman Western Australia, etc.) with only 40 slots.
