I vaguely remember some Portuguese guy that lives in Las Cruces that used to post here on ST. I can't quite remember his name...Pablano Salsa or something zippy like that.

Anyway, he supposedly coached a bunch of ST pros to PBs by piling on miles until they almost, but not quite, broke down. "Too Much is Too Easy" or something...

Re: Who are the worlds best TRI coaches??? [bllsiht] [In reply to] Can't Post

no offense, but that seems like a pointless question. The best coach is the one that helps the athlete get the most out of their potential. Who that coach is will vary depending on the athlete.

Obviously, knowledge and experience are the big factors, but so are geographic location, cost, personal style (how they interact with the athlete on a personal level), etc. etc.

There a lot of big names out there that come to mind, as well as several that post here regularly.

Gordo Byrn
Mitch Gold
Mark Allen
Dave Scott
Peter Ried
Brett Sutton
Roch Frey
Lance Watson
Joe Friel
Paulo Sousa
Mike Plumb
Rich Strauss

PS. Mike Plumb is my coach

I think he was asking for the BEST tri coaches... not the best MARKETED. ;-)

Not that you don't have some good coaches on your list.... just sayin'.

Exactly.

And your list is missing a name (actually a few names).

Scott Molina
John Newsom
Michael McCormack
Debi Bernades
Graham Wilson
Johnnyo
Ian Murray
Neil Cook

There are lots more.

As is yours: Best coach out there is by far and away Chris McCormack. He coached himself to become the Ironman World Champion and coached Kieran Doe to become IM Canada Champion (as well as 3rd place at Roth).

Ironlobo's coach, whoever that is. This coach is going to take a 12+ hour IM finisher in 2007 and make him a sub 10 hour finisher by next November. That's some really good coaching.

I think his point is that taking two highly motivated, extremely talented individuals and leading them to success is not exactly a miracle.

I'd give more credit to the coach's both of those athletes had when they were younger, who set them up for what they've achieved today.

One coach, already listed in this thread, coached 3 of the top 20 women at Hawaii this year, plus has coached a dozen ITU world champions, and Olympian swimmers.

If you don't know who that is, then welcome to the sport of triathlon.

3 of the top 20 women, or IM World Champion and IM Canada Champion. I'll go with the coach of champions. And I'll assume that you missed the part about where the question asks about TRI coaches, not Olympian swimmer coaches. But if you want to throw that in as well, there are many many swimming coaches better than the one to whom you are referring. Welcome to the sport of swimming.

3 of the top 20. One being the winner (Chrissie Wellington).

So you agree on Brett Sutton then.
