And now the GOP loses the young male vote Quote | Reply

The GOP platform committee has included a plank in this year's draft document calling for "vigorous" enforcement of anti-pornography laws.
In a press release Monday from Morality in Media, a faith-based non-profit, President Patrick Trueman, a former anti-porn prosecutor, calls the current distribution of pornography "a violation of current federal law" and lauds Republicans for approving stricter new wording
The new language replaces previous platform wording, which only opposed child pornography. It will now read, "Current laws on all forms of pornography and obscenity need to be vigorously enforced." Trueman noted that current federal obscenity laws not only prohibit distribution of hardcore pornography on the Internet but also on hotel/motel TV, on cable/satellite TV, and in retail shops.

I don't see why the GOP bothers with something like this, when there are other (enormous) fish to fry.

That said, why are you opposed to enforcement of existing laws?

They do this shit b/c they have the religious right and the fundamentalist to whom they try to appease. Give me a break! Focus on the important issues. That group isn't going to vote Donkey anyway. Sheesh!

You used "vigorous" and "pornography" in the same sentence. It gave me a roll over.

I wish Romney would say -"I appreciate all of your concerns. The economy and repealing Obamacare are my most important priorities. I will not adopt a platform that causes me to alienate the independent and moderate voters that I need. I hope you are interested in ousting someone who you know stands against your beliefs. Otherwise, if I have to adopt every platform, you'll probably have 4 more years of him."

Funny thing is, the religious right and the fundamentalists are some of the biggest consumers of pornography....

I think it is the trickle down the leg affect.

See if guys are not watching porn, they might actually call and date some of the women they know.

That will lead to more marraiges

And Children

and then buying minivans and homes

All of which will improve the economy

And we all know Married people are more conservative so they will gradually shift to the Republican party

if he said that - it would show real leadership.

instead, Romney has given in to all the crazies in his party.

I love the way they all threw Todd Akin under the bus, and then the GOP went ahead and put outlawing abortion, even in the cases of rape and incest in their platform. These guys are a class act. Let's elect them to lead us.

And Paul Ryan said in an interview on the subject that rape was just "another method of conception". These people are seriously wackadoodle.

Do you try to be a lying dip shit or does it come naturally?

“I’m very proud of my pro-life record, and I’ve always adopted the idea that, the position that the method of conception doesn’t change the definition of life,” Ryan explained. “But let’s remember, I’m joining the Romney-Ryan ticket. And the president makes policy.”

Wow - They really seem determined to be in everyone's sex lives, aren't they? Or, they are looking that way which is pretty much the same thing in the eyes of the voters.

Step away from talking about anything do with with genitalia and how they should or should not be used.

I'll respond on behalf of Paddywack then:

"And when Paul Ryan was asked about abortion in the cases of Rape, he said in an interview on the subject, that "he always adopted the idea that, the position that the method of conception doesn’t change the definition of life,”

while Paddywack did quote him a little differently... I can detect no difference in the meaning. So- how does that make him a "lying dip shit"?

Ryan was asked about rape and he called it a "method of conception".

Todd Akin must be laughing his ass off.

These people believe that children come from God and we haven't got any rights interfering with the process. That's why they are opposed to abortions. But they won't say so outright because even they know how wacky it sounds. So they beat around the bush.

Also, they are opposed to environmental science because Earth was made by God and we couldn't possibly ruin it. And again they don't say so because they know it's wack, so they beat around the bush and invent crazy liberal science conspiracy theories which then they attack in ernest.

If it weren't such a serious matter it would be fucking hilarious.

Re: And now the GOP loses the young male vote [Paddywhack] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

I think what ALL politicians need to learn is when to stop talking. Don't even bring up your unwed daughter's pregnancy when talking about pregnancy from rape. And definitely don't say in the eyes of a father they are similar. Backtracking never really helps either.

US Senate Nominee Tom Smith when asked about Akin's comments:

“What that congressman said I do not agree with at all,” Smith said. “He should have never said anything like that.

“I lived something similar to that with my own family,” he went on to say. “She chose life and I commend her for that. She knew my views but fortunately for me … she chose the way I thought. Now don't get me wrong. It wasn't rape.”

Smith was then asked if his daughter's unwed pregnancy and rape were similar. “No, no, no. Put yourself in a father's position, yes, I mean it is similar,” he said.

Asked again to clarify his statement, Smith said he wasn't comparing the two.

“No, I didn't not say that,” Smith said. “I said I went through a situation (with a daughter). It's very, very difficult. But do I condone rape? Absolutely not. But do I propose life, yes I do. I'm pro-life, period.

“A life is a life and it needs protecting,” he added. “Who's going to protect it? We have to. I believe life begins at conception. I'm not going to argue about the method of that conception. It's life. And I'm pro-life. It's that simple.”

I've read this in several sources, the quote specifically, and here is one: http://www.pennlive.com/...idate_likens_ra.html

I want to know how true to this premise the small government GOP really is.

Lets assume for arguments sake Romney and Ryan win and the GOP takes the Senate. First order of business is the outlawing of abortion and a new definition of murder that includes the killing of an embryo, implanted or not.

How do you police this new world order? what if a man suspects that his girlfriend might be pregnant but he cannot be sure, and lets say he catches her smoking, can he ask for state mandated pregnancy test and follow with child endangerment charges? Will the fetus be able to sue its mother for smoking? or not taking her pregnancy vitamins? COuld the state mandate that all women refrain from vigorous physical activity for 3 days after sex just in case there's an embryo on its way down the tube that wants to implant? Will the state monitor every pregnancy and watch every pregnant woman, particularly the reluctant ones, to make sure they are doing everything to see the pregnancy to term? will they mandate healthcare for pregnant women? What if a woman miscarries? will such events be reported to the police? will there be a murder investigation? an autopsy? Can women be reported to the police if a neighbor is suspicious that she may have ended a pregnancy?

All logical questions that must be answered (and hundreds more) if we are to grant personhood to a ball of cells in a fallopian tube.
