Orangutan treats wound with a poultice
I thought this was interesting. An orangutan had a wound just below his eye after a fight with another male. He was observed chewing leaves from a vine and then using them as a poultice on the wound.

Wasn't Tarzan healed by a gorilla putting a wad of mud filled with maggots into his open wound?

Pretty sure I recall hearing of chimpanzees appearing to use some plants for seemingly medicinal reasons.

Really fascinating and close to home as I romp around Indo. I love how the scientists are open to the idea it might all be random coincidence that he happened to chew the leaf and get pain relief from touching the juice to his wound. I’d be there wondering what I’m going to wear on the Times’ cover. I guess that’s why they’re scientist and not average Joe-jump-to-conclusions-Public.
