I think they're polarising. Those who care about their appearance and look after themselves have never had more information and services available to help them look good. There's more information on diet and exercise available than ever before, and cosmetic treatments from orthodontics, to botox, to surgery are widely available and affordable. Also for older women there are no end of celebrities and actresses showing you can still look hot into your 40s, 50s, 60s. Basically if you're bothered about your appearance and have the time and money to spend on it, you can look great well into what used to be considered your twilight years.

At the other end of the scale, if you don't care about your appearance and/or don't have the willpower to do what it takes to look good, it has never been easier/cheaper to overeat crappy food, wear baggy clothes, and barely move from the couch. And it's never been more unacceptable to judge those people.

All of the above applies to men as well, only with the addition of steroids. Yesterday I was hanging out by the pool of an expensive hotel and thinking I'd never seen so many people (men and women) in their 40s and 50s with beach bodies that wouldn't look out of place in a celebrity magazine. A week before that I was at a theme park and went on the lazy river with the kids and thought I was in a WALL-E themed ride as most of the other visitors looked like this:

Mustangchef, women who want to work out and look super fit can and do and these highly marketed chains are a big part of that. You may mock it, but they create some hotties.

I have tried, on multiple occasions, and she's just not into it.

She says thats something only clingy young women and desperate old bags do.

Sometimes, she is just so......vanilla

Edit: Women are definitely not getting more beautiful, at least not around here!
