An ex-Marine is a Marine who's been booted out of the Corps, usually as a result of a bad conduct or dishonorable discharge. A "former Marine" is one who got out or retired after the end of his/her tour. There's a big difference between an ex-Marine and a former Marine. Which was this fellow?

I don't want to get into the back-and-forth our esteemed colleagues are having about jailing Marines, that's for sure. But I think this fellow wants to be called by his Arab kunya war name, Abdallah abdu Everitt ibn Gordon. That's a lot of nouns and consonants for "Abdallah Gordon." The "abdu" and "ibn" things just formally identify his patrilineage.

It's completely false, of course, and he most likely didn't change it legally. But when you convert to Islam with the aim of identifying with various non-state terror groups such as ISIS -- as it sounds like this gentleman did -- you get to do all kinds of cool stuff, like take on a war name, become an SOA ("Soldier of Allah") and plot terror attacks against your fellow citizens.

Let's stipulate that the number of Muslims who turn to jihadism and subsequent terrorism is exceedingly small, because that number is indeed small. But what is it about the Salafist ideology that's permeated these groups like ISIS that's so attractive to some of these converts?

Are they just lost souls looking for some meaning or purpose to their lives? It's like that Jihad Jane woman, Colleen LaRose, who was busted by the feds in the act of helping a terror cell plan and then attempt to carry out the assassination of someone who supposedly had insulted Islam. It's crazy.

Speaking of crazy, a photo of former Marine and convert to Islam, Everitt Aaron Jameson -- who'd chosen the name Abdallah abdu Everitt ibn Gordon upon his conversion (informally, "Abdallah Gordon") -- has emerged:



His seems to be the standard-issue descent into jihad-inspired madness, from our point of view: according to major media reports, Jameson had begun to post and like pro-terrorism related content on Facebook.

An archived profile on his Facebook page also reveals that Jameson appears to be a big Antifa supporter:



Jameson also liked several other pages, most of which are fairly routine for these heated all-politics-all-the-time days in which we live. Given the fellow's affinity for Antifa, the following come as no surprise:

‘Trump Resistance Movement’, ‘Things Trump Supporters Say’, ‘US Democratic Socialists’, ‘Progressive Politics’, and ‘Jeremy Corbyn’. (ed. Can't say I blame him on those Orange-Haired Wonder pages ;-)

The erstwhile Abdallah Gordon also liked several news organizations, including The Young Turks (I loved their election night 2016 on-screen meltdown over the results ;-), CNN, Buzzfeed and Al-Jazeera. He also liked a number of pro-vegan pages (that should have been the ultimate giveaway to his impending terrorist attempts ;-).

The hopeful jihadist also expressed sympathy for a few pro-Islam pages (What a shock, right?). These included ‘Documenting Oppression Against Muslims, ‘Islam – Religion of Peace’ and ‘Stunning Hijabs’, as well as numerous anti-Israel activist pages.

In sum, his appears to be a life that became a mix of radical far-leftism and Islamism, including radical Islamist jihadism.

The question, of course, is why?

Was he self-radicalizing while he was in the Marine Corps, or was he a hopeful jihadi when he enlisted, hoping to gain the military skills he believed he needed in order to be an effective jihadi fighter? Or did his separation from the Corps -- ostensibly for medical reasons (asthma) -- become the spark that lit the fuse of the bomb he'd hoped to become? Whatever the cause, it was enough to convince him that his ideology demanded he try to kill as many of his fellow citizens and other visitors to Pier 39 as he could.
