Best Places to Print (High Quality) Photos
Quote | Reply
I was thinking about this earlier and forgot, but the other current photography thread reminded me...

I printed off one of my picture on a 12x16" canvas for my mom for christmas, through Costco for the simplicity and reasonable price. However, when I got the print, it's okay, but not the quality I was hoping for.

What online sites do any of you photographers use for printing high quality photos, on either paper, canvas, or metal prints?

The other option is finding a local brick and

mortar, which I may do. I mean, preferably I'd like to get a Canon imagePROGRAF Pro-1000, but that isn't quite in the budget :)

Edit: FYI, this is the Costco canvas print (with the plastic protective wrap still on it)
And the photo is sideways, the tree should be in the bottom right hand corner (:
Second Edit: screw me, i'm dumb. It's only sideways on my phone, not my laptop. Oh well...

A little pricier, but i’m okay with that for a higher quality end-product, and it seems to have good reviews. I’ll definitly try from there soon, thank you very much

I’m a daily visitor to CanonRumors.com, and your question has been asked (and answered) there many times.

Here are some recommendations that appear often:

Mpix.com
Bayphoto.com
Adoramapix.com

To be honest, I’ve used my local Walgreen’s for several large prints, and was very pleased.

I’ve looked quite a bit at mpix and adorama, and was debating between adorama and Costco when I went with Costco for the ease and as it was right before Christmas, I was familiar with it and wanted the peace of mind that it would be here on time etc.

I’ll look into reviews on those as well, thank you

I just found this shop as well in my city, with good reviews and it seems to cater more towards the higher end photographers than the Walgreens/Rite Aid variety. I might go visit and check it out soon.

Looks good. I only use places that cater to pros.

I have used posterbrain.com for large prints on canvas and been very happy.

I'd bet that most use the same equipment, much like the old photo developing equipment got to be standard.

ETA - they actually have live people looking at it and making sure it is good. They called me on one and said they didn't want to crop it to the standard size I had and instead did a custom size to avoid losing some parts. The person on the phone was actually trying to make the best product they could instead of just running it through.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

My personal experience with adorama has been excellent. They do a superb job and offer a wide variety of media for printing. A quantum leap from the drug store

For something different, printing on plate glass, try these guys

Only place I know of to get this done

I have had Costco print off some of my promo bridal portraits in 16x20 canvas. Quality-wise,I am not sure what coating is or ink is used for protection against fading (used to have a guy locally who guaranteed 99 years). In this case I wasn't concerned because it was a price & delivery issue. The metal print I had printed from Costco was phenomenal!

what's the appeal of this as opposed to printing on paper/canvas/metal?

The print on glass appear brighter than metal prints, kind of like they do on the computer.

They are printed on the back of the glass, with a black backing behind the image, so the image won't scratch. You mount them directly on the wall or on a small tripod all without a frame. I receive constant comments about the ones I have in the office. They are very visually appealing to striking and seem to bring out color better than other media

They do not have the resolution of a good paper print. For images I want to bring out fine detail such as wildlife, I go to paper print, now using metalized paper from Adorama. For family and friend pictures, I like the fractures.
