Got away from it all...Grand Marais. Only 200 people in town. Major wind event. Expecting 16 to 24 ft waves. Lake Superior is bodacious.

I agree! But my wife grew-up in Sault Ste Marie and has an alternate perspective, lol...

Garrison Keillor has a 15 minute long bit about how we should sell all the water in Lake Superior to the Saudis, and after it's drained we'd have Superior Canyon which would become a huge tourist attraction. Win/Win.

Ironman Superior could be incredible but you would get about 200 people to show up...then again that would not be a bad thing.

I would but they wouldn't have the holy fuck factor of being here.
Google earth this place. I'm at the Superior Hotel, 40 bucks a night. That's not a typo.
The only two other people that stayed here in the last few days were from Wash DC and Maine.,

Poor Garrison Keillor. Whenever I hear his name now, I can only think of one thing. It's so sad what happened to him...

There's a half-iron on Superior in Duluth (link). Haven't done this race myself, but it's become a very popular and well-respected race here in MN.
