Christmas Terror Plot in Germany Busted by Authorities (Syrian "Refugees")
So, Mutti Merkel: this is what you meant when you said that Germany could handle a gaggle of more than 1 million refugees from North Africa and the Middle East?

"The police in Germany arrested six Syrian migrants on Tuesday, suspected of plotting an attack and having links to the Islamic State, fanning fears that extremists posing as refugees were targeting Europe…

On Tuesday, Christian Hartwig, a spokesman for the Frankfurt prosecutor’s office, said that 500 police officers had stormed eight apartments in the German cities of Essen, Hanover, Kassel and Leipzig in early morning raids, and arrested the suspects. The men, ages 20 to 28, had been posing as refugees, Mr. Hartwig said.

He said the men were suspected of acting on behalf of the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, and were planning an attack using weapons or explosives. They had arrived in Germany between December 2014 and September 2015, he added, a period when millions of refugees were heading to Europe. All six had applied for asylum, though Mr. Hartwig did not say if they had been granted that status."

The German papers were all over the story as well:

"The men are suspected of “planning an attack with weapons or explosives on a public target in Germany,” according to prosecutors. Authorities said that the men had not yet finished preparing their attack, but did not provide further details.

The suspects planned to carry out the attack at a Christmas market in the western city of Essen, sources close to the investigation told local public broadcaster Hessische Rundfunk. Police have not yet confirmed the report."

"Attack at a Christmas market?" Sounds like a repeat of last year's Berlin Christmas market terror strike. A Turkish refugee used a semi-truck to drive through the crowded mart and kill 12 people while injuring dozens more.

If Merkel falls as Germany's chancellor, and it's looking increasingly like she's going to have to call new elections once again as she and her party, the Christian Democrats, have failed to build a ruling coalition with other parties, it'll be because of her push to open German (and European) borders to millions of refugees and immigrants, mostly from the aforementioned Middle East and North Africa.

I think I am. In the last two years Germany a country of about 100 million people has had a grand total of 14 people die in terrorist attacks. That's less than the church shooting in texas, alot less than the assault rifle slaughter in Las Vegas, alot less than orlando, san bernadino etc. Given they have welcomed one million refugees I'd say its remarkable. She has a doctorate in quantum physics and has been in power for 12 years and like the honey badger don't take no shit from anyone.

So basically you are saying Germans should have more guns to protect themselves from these refugees.

Absolutely. A few million guns and I think we can cut the carnage down to single digits. Correction, doctorate in quantum chemistry not physics.

Just for conversation's sake, I'd suggest that many people want to not even be at risk of such a thing, or at least not have their risk so obviously increased. Inviting refugees in = now they're at greater risk of being attacked from within. What's wrong with not wanting that? What's wrong with questioning Merkel on now loose her standards were for inviting refugees in?

Nothing wrong with asking questions. Alot of people asked questions. But likely thousands of peoples lives (Syrians) were saved. And the risk appears to have been very well managed. If the standard is no risk at all why let anyone in? Have you ever been in a jam and needed help?

Thankfully some people are willing to take some risks to help people in dire need. The people of Germany still have the option of not re-electing Ms. Merkel if the risk is too high for them. Ms. Merkel took a risk of her political future to help these people.

So that's 0.000006% of the gaggle of refugees? Germany needs to screen better.

Considering that in every country with refugees, the crime rates are lower from the refugees than from the citizens of the host country, maybe the question should be why don't they invite in more refugees and get rid of their own citizens. That would keep people a lot safer.

In reality though, there are a lot of people whose lives have been saved by being able to immigrate to another country. Given their low levels of crime, and the number of people who now have a chance at a good life for themselves and their families, many people think that is a good thing.

"Inviting refugees in = now they're at greater risk of being attacked from within."

Not that I disagree, but that has to be balanced against
Not Inviting refugees in = now they're at greater risk of being attacked from without.

With the exception of AFD supporters, most Germans welcome the refugees. Merkel is in trouble now because of the way the CDU handles coalitions, not because of the refugees. I certainly don't walk around all day scared of refugees and I don't know anyone who does.

And the German papers aren't "all over this". It's not even front page news on Der Spiegel.

Well, somehow all those news outlets seem to be much less eager to report that the 6 men have been released because it turns out they were most likely wrongly accused. Go figure...

So far in 2017 not a single person has died in a Muslim terrorist attack in Germany. In the US over 300 people have died in mass shootings by people who are primarily Christian.

Perhaps Germany should be more concerned about Christian tourists from the US than Muslim immigrants.
